apparently some girls (most likely privileged suburbanites) in the corporate world think its ghetto and for black people so as a result. they look down on them and think that its better if dudes have hobbies that are productive/inclusive (traveling, hiking, backpacking) or hobbies that get them farther in life (improving health, career related hobbies, useful knowledge, etc.)

I would hate to be having to work and do something productive 24/7 to appeal to those kind of girls. Wheres the fun in this case?

I know this is an attack on me but this is actually true. Its the only way youll get a lot of rare and sought after pairs for a decent price.

I haven't bought a game in years because I kind of reached the same conclusion. I am eagerly awaiting them to make something I'll actually want to play that I can trust to last a long time though.
With shoes it's what "Look I'm wearing the red ones again today but they're a little more worn down." and that's it, that's the mileage.

The people getting into shoes because of a celebrity I cant stand, same with people who all of a sudden started collecting shoes because of the last dance/pandemic and dont even wear them. Theyre meant to wear, not be an art piece solely. Also,

I like them. Its similar to collecting headphones/iems which i do. I guess sneakers are more pricey tho at the highest-end.

I'm not one myself, but I think it's a fine hobby. I like having a variety of different clothing and hairstyles, and I like accessorizing. Same can go for people and their shoes. Also the fact that finding certain pairs of shoes is hard as hell, so they probably get a rush of joy when they get something rare.

It's just that generations version of beanie babies. A whole bunch of adults fighting to get some limited collector's edition object whose material value is a fraction of a fraction of what they paid so that they can put it in some kind of case on a shelf and tell themselves it's an investment, but one in which 30 years from now is going to be completely worthless.

But hey, if it makes them happy then go for it.

I know a lot of Filipino sneaker heads. They got more shoes than their gfs. It's an expensive hobby.
