Would you attend a concert alone?

Awhile back I made a topic asking if I should attend Anamanaguchi solo - even though I was most definitely going to do so regardless of the outcome of the poll and it was a fantastic experience. I met a handful of people there that were also going alone and talked music/enjoyed the show with them.

Anyways, have you ever gone to concert alone? Would you? I personally think it's worth it if you don't have any friends into the style of music that is going to be playing, etc.

Oh that would be exciting. I really want to see her perform at some point but I keep missing the opportunity.

Yes, I'll be seeing at least the Melvins and the Decemberists alone here in the not too distant future. Possibly Alice in Chains. Probably First Aid Kit.

Yeah I've also contemplated attending comedy shows solo, though I haven't yet. Some of the venues I've been looking at host comedy during the week.

I've gone to several as an adult alone. I've not regretted it a single time. The TL;DR version of my post is don't let lack of company stop you from doing things you want. I've taken to vacationing, hiking, dining, and concerts alone. I still like going with people but I don't let lack of company stop me.

All of my friends basically have families nowadays. In my twenties, between grad school stress and people moving on with their lives, I had nobody to really do activities with. That was new to me. I always had people to do things with growing up. So I felt awkward and I stopped doing things. I couldn't just call people up and be like let's go the show. They had kids, wives, or husbands or whatnot. I have the money to do things I want, so I just do them alone or not.

Around age 30 I just on a whim booked a hotel, at some club somewhere like 6 hours away. I drove, went to the show, and had a ton of fun.

It was a Courtney Barnett show back in 2015, in fact!

Sadly, I've not been a huge fan her past two albums. I love her first album and the Sea of Split Peas EP.

Sure. I basically did once. My brother and our roommate and I went to see The Sword and we got split up. I basically watched the concert by myself but it was standing room only and people were packed too tightly to even move much. I found a spot against the wall and stayed there.

Her latest albums are my two faves. I've seen a number of videos of her performing live online and I know I'm in for a good show.
She even posted her band's full performance from her recent concert in Nashville minus the encore.

I think I preferred her slightly more garage rocky sound and the wry humor in the songs in her early stuff. The past two albums seem to feature those qualities less (to me.) I have her second full album. I didn't bother buying the most recent ones because the singles I heard didn't interest me. She somehow reminds me a bit of a female Kurt Vile now. I know she did an album with him. I like Kurt but only in small doses.

Going to a Dreamcatcher concert with friends in a few weeks but the venue is small for the demand so we had to get separate seats. Should be fun. I'm friendly as fuck but sometimes it backfires lol

Not familiar but tell me more. I listen to a fair amount of indie stuff. Maybe not 8 layers into Bandcamp all the time. But I like learning about new music.

For clarity purposes, I'm not bashing Barnett. I think she is extremely gifted but evolved in a way divergent from my core tastes.

I've been really into Wet Leg though as far as newer stuff. I was on a work trip and missed them this Spring when they were near my home.

Sweet, I added their self titled album to listen tomorrow. I really only know the one song by Mo Kenney, and its actually a bit older than I had thought, being from 2015.

Mo Kenney - Telephones

It kinda evokes similar feelings in me as Courtney Barnetts older material, especially in how grounded it is. I know you were a major contributor in the all female musician topic so I thought youd have heard of her lol.

I've gone a few times alone but I mostly try and go with friends. Although even when I go alone I still talk to people and hang out in between bands.

The type of shows I go to are pretty underground and the scene is small. The venues are usually small too. If you go to shows often enough you tend to recognize people that you've seen before, so you have an easy ice-breaker to go up and start talking to them.

i went to see my favorite kpop group TWICE in concert a couple months ago

my wife went with me. but in front of us, was this dude alone. in the beginning he wasn't vibing with any of the songs, just sat there still recording on his phone. i thought, is this dude a scalper and couldn't sell it higher than he paid so he was like fuck it ill go?

anyway, 2 hours into the night (it was a 3 hour show i believe), he just started drinking. and drinking, and drinking. hed come back with beer after beer after beer. by the end, he was fucking wasted as shit. he started trying to dance, but hed just fall onto the EXTREMELY patient people next to him. by the end of the concert, he was passed out in his seat

it was so strange
