People say stuff like kick cancers ass and whatnot. It implies that the people who died from it lost a battle or fight and paints them as losers, when really it's that they just died from a disease.

I don't get the narrative that we're at war with covid either

If you interpret losing your life as being a loser, that's on you. People and their immune systems fight disease and lose. That's just the way it is.

I sorta agree with you but at the same time when you get chemo, it takes a lot out of you and makes you miserable. Some people feel more effects than others. But that's what will push your tolerance and where the "fight" part comes in. And sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

COVID is different because we have some control over how much total damage it can do. If 100% of people wore masks, practiced isolation after exposure, tested frequently, got vaccinated, practiced good hand hygiene, avoided crowds, avoided large gatherings, the number of people dead and or severely disabled would have been significantly less and the total duration of the pandemic would've been much much less.

It is a fight though. My brother was lucky enough to fight it and win.

I never liked the "winning/losing" thing wrt cancer either. That said, I'd never tell someone who made it "you didn't actually battle it", hah

As someone who has had cancer and survived I don't care what you call it, so long as the struggle people face with it is acknowledged.

This is an odd take.

Losing a fight (against disease or another person) doesn't mean you somehow failed or youre a bad person.
