My goodness, thank you! I don't know half of these skills despite being in HR6, which means I have some actual investigation to do. Only thing I even recall is the reverse blast thing where you zoom around like a maniac, but I didn't know you could actually point that forward in a huge blast. I've been using the Ground Splitter (what you say is Sliding Dash) and trying to keep that along with the Quick Reload skill so I can crank out the stakes. Ground Split into them, spike them, then wyvernblast / full blast. I had no idea there were more moves I've been missing out on, so I definitely need to re-evaluate my silk bind skills. I assume I can only get some of these in MR then? Cause as far as I'm aware, I have all of my skills.

This is a good write up, though! I'm still in base at the moment as I chug through the rest of the stuff to get to MR where I can hopefully get to the good stuff. I'm just stuck with Long at the moment cause I think it's the freebie easy mode weapon if you bought Sunrise so I'll just keep my playstyle at the moment. I don't even think a monster I've killed yet gives Artillery yet, however I do have Load up so my Long lance has a respectable 5 shells for a full burst.

Yeah sorry Ground Splitter. It's a skill I'm trying to erase from my memory because it originally led to the nerf of GL damage only for the use of this skill to essentially add back a part of the nerfed damage. It's been reverted back to what it should be in Sunbreak, but it basically killed GL's viability singlehandedly. It's not only a time consuming skill, it also gets rid of the buff on sheathe, is actually interruptible by status or able to get you killed against the event bosses, and it doesn't even really connect into other attacks all that fast.

You can X+A into a slam down, which you can press A to do fullshell. You can X or A? into a WS, but you can also do that with the slam down > fullshell > X > X for the same effect but better. It's unclear why GS just randomly has different buttons for follow up compared to most moves, but it's good to know every move GS can go into, cuz you're gonna be using it for all of LR/HR.

Hail Cutter on the other hand is actually quite good now if you build a lot of offensive skills. The slam down part of Hail Cutter has been massively buffed, and it connects into a full shelling guaranteed. Imo this should technically do more overall damage than GS, but HC sadly takes 2 bugs, which can be dangerous. Fast charging but still dangerous. Oh right, the worst thing about this move is that if you get knocked mid air, you don't get the slam down nor the WF cooldown, which sucks

Thinking about it, in LR/HR, using Long, spamming Wyvernfire, using Hail Cutter to basically instantly get it back, then use WF again, is honestly not a bad way to play. I think full shelling with Blast Dash with Normal is still gonna be the best way to GL no matter what, but I don't think this style of play falls behind much

Which one are you using? I've only seen people use Garangolm HBG and I think Scorned for Spread 3?

That's probably what next month's armor thing is for, and JFC I hope nothing like the Guiding Lands comes back. I hate that you can't keep every area max so you have to re-grind the same low-tier shit just to grind something else. I'm thankful I only got around to it after the updates were done because iirc it was a lot worse at release.

i didn't mind guiding lands, it kept me playing. Sunbreak i was ready to drop like 4 days after release

Yeah that was fast. I was considering capping when I saw the skull but I hadn't picked up the shinies or carved the tail. It's a shame the paralysis was interrupted by the mount. I couldn't wallbang either because Rakna was still there so two pretty good opportunities were lost because of how fast it got beat <_<

Also I got a mantle off the tail so that was also fast.

yeah it is, but theres a chance to get it as a reward for hunting/capturing. I needed another shield jewel and the game just does not want me to complete the build lol

Anyone else find it kind of annoying that increasing your luck has no effect on afflicted materials?

What's the point of investing in points to improve your reward chances when it doesn't affect the end game?

It's possible that the Good Luck skill doesn't actually have a chance to reward some other materials in the game, but not giving out Afflicted materials is just super noticeable. I think if you wanna sacrifice part of your build for rewards you should be using the skill from that Arena feather which gives you an extra carve.

They made doing everything way too easy. They really needed an infinitely looping thing or something as outrageous as Deviants EX to justify half the mechanics in the game. But atm, afflicted is too easy, and I made sure to solo everything before farming them in multi, and that was not hard whatsoever either.

If they just add Afflicted armor lotto and don't add the difficult content that will make you want it, I'll seriously be questioning the portable team. How'd they go from 4U to this, in terms of quest making

Wrong team. Portable did P3rd and Gen.

Wtf is the difference? Where'd the 4U team go then? Also GU had decent quest designs too, except for how you can't skip to G Deviant quests for some of these mons

4U is the main team and worked on World, which also had RNG weapons now that I'm thinking about it. They don't do numbering anymore because it scares off new players or something idunno, there's some article I'm sure you could read about why MH5 isn't called that. I don't think there's actually a huge difference in the devs working on it but just the director maybe?

Wasn't this the case for all of them? Gen's deviants had 10 quests, G rank had 5. So the new Deviants like Soulseer for example only had 5 quests instead of 15 like say Redhelm.

yeah we're already getting sub 10 minute clear times on endgame hunts they need something to keep people playing at this point and adding a few new monsters who may or may not change the meta probably won't be enough to bring back casual users. Honestly they made the same mistake with Sunbreaks endgame that they did with Rise, in that it's basically nonexistent lol. World you had your tempered investigations and guiding lands to augment gear and the challenges rose appropriately, even had mini raids.

This has... getting afflicted parts from a handful of monsters that can be easily killed in unupgraded MR gear to upgrade your weapon to max level and then you're done lol

On a more on topic note the final boss refuses to give me any more Dragonsphire's. I only want like two more of its weapons maybe but no dice.

Edit: I was today years old when I found out Elemental Burst Counter doesn't have to make contact with the monster to amp up the Switch Axe. I thought it was like ISS this whole time so I've been using it close to the monster. Now I wish ISS was like this, because I'm sure anyone in here who's played LS has successfully ISS'd a monster attack only for it to whiff through the monster and you don't get to go up a spirit level.

Personally I made a mixed set with some of the better early pieces and late/endgame HR sets and gradually switched to full MR in MR2-4 depending on weapon.

Yeah your HR stuff will last a while. Whenever you're able to craft something in MR that has at least a few of the skills in your HR set, grab it for the defense and do without some skills for a while. It helps that MR gear tends to have more skills or slots than the HR equivalents, so you can squeeze in some extra points with some clever reallocation.

Thinking of making a set with

Hellfire Cloak
Bloodlust
Coalescence
Paralysis Up

Etc.

To get a ton of Para and some extra knockdowns with hellfire. Throw in some traps, endemic life and such to lockdown a monster most the quest.

Should be great for Afflicted Diablos when he comes. Para is 3* on him.

This would be for multiplayer.

How does Hellfire Cloak work? I never bothered to try it.

Do you do magma explosions and topple the mon?
