Still no release date, though it's nice hearing the Tower theme again. Oh and it seems we'll need to be MR10 to access the Title Update 1 stuff. I hope the gear isn't too nutty because it makes progression weird if Iceborne is anything to go by. I had used update stuff all the way to MR100, and Alatreon(actual, not the easy mode quest) was the last Monster I hunted before Ruiner Nergigante(which was a joke).

They definitely won't force you to be MR 100 for any of the new shit, just like it was in base Rise where once they added the HR 100 stuff, the rest of the updates didn't really require you to be HR 100 except for Valstrax I think.

It's definitely bad to try to rush to MR 100. I'd recommend just letting it happen naturally over time.

Also the monsters you unlock in 70 and 100 don't have super meta sets. I think Mail of H. is considered pretty bad due to overblown negatives for the positives, and D.Heart is basically sub-optimal. You definitely don't need to grind for them. In fact, I think in general, once you beat the Sunbreak final boss, you have access to the best sets you can make for every weapon

I haven't really counted. I'm interspecing my grinding for afflicted materials with some apexes since I need materials those quests give (outfit vouchers and lazurite jewels) and seeing as they're not in g rank, I won't be hunting their crowns later on anyway. Must have hunted at least 50 without getting any of the crowns I'm lacking.

NGL I laughed when you got hit by the squirt gun he only fires when tired. I didn't even know you could get hit by that so I always thought it was a dud like Rathian's fake fireball. Also I forgot to bring Thunderbugs so I ran out of both Thunder ammo's shortly after he moved area's. I just didn't want to go back to camp mid-fight but we killed him in that area anyway <_<

I think you have to be like on the opposite side of where he's swinging his tail a bit. I managed to Spiral Slash during the startup and he missed completely. Also I was pure spaghetti that hunt. Other than hitting 3K with the Strongarm Stance TCS I played like garbage <_<

Well that was my last hunt for the night either way so GG's. I managed to carve two Afflicted Fangs which was nice. I don't think I've managed to get more than one before the rewards screen.

I live in lolTexas so ever since last year's freeze I've been paranoid about our power shitting out again. It got so cold inside our house my fucking hand soap was frozen. Then we had no water, and then our water was shit so there was a boil water notice ofc. Austin water in particular is pretty bad at times. I can hardly wait for the Zebra Mussels to come back and stink up our water this year x_x

I never even beat HR in the base game because I did not like it that much. I picked up Sunbreak with a gift card so I am making my way through HR but Rise is just such a...weird entry in MH. I'm not a big fan of what they did and removed, like it just feels like I'm in a rush to do everything ASAP and I'm not really hunting I'm just running towards an icon until I can kill it quickly and move to the next one.

Hopefully when I get out of HR6 and into MR it will start being better for me.

Who here is a Gunlance main? I feel like they've changed the shots and what bonuses they get, can someone give me a run down? I thought it was:

Wide -> Wyrm stake, single shots are boosted (this is the one I prefer to use because of it's propensity for poke damage)
Long -> Charged shells, wyvern blast are boosted
Normal -> Full burst is boosted

Has that been changed? I made a Basarios set with Load Up to give me an extra shell but I'm using a really strong Long type shell so I just want to be sure I'm getting all the bang for my buck.

How many MH titles have you played? I don't particulary miss paintballs or scoutflies, but I wouldn't really mind if they came back. Stuff like breakable pickaxes and bug nets can die in a fire though. I actually do miss hot/cold drinks because it made lava/desert/ice maps and areas feel different. Now the only differences are what environmental hazards are in the map.

RIP. It's never fun making a set, saving it to an equipment loadout slot, and then realizing it was a waste. FWIW lower levels of Focus does give you more time for Rage Slash/Strongarm Stance.

Normal and Long actually both get the same bonus to charged shelling in Rise(1.5x) according to Caoslayer, but Long has better base damage so it would result in higher overall damage. Long has the best Bullet Barrage because the Wyvern's Fire portion of it hits an additional time. I'm unsure if charged Level 8 Wide shells can still outdamage a charged Long shell, but if you're firing off regular shells I guess Wide would still be okay.

Honestly at this point, I mostly use the wyrm stake and full burst. Normal was my jam in world, felt like a fun dance to shotgun blast, sweep, reload, slam, repeat. I think I'm using the freebie weapon, if there is one, which is why it's stronger than the other ones I've been using. Think it only takes like one ore to upgrade. Call me a relic of freedom 2 with the triple poke shell triple poke madness

To answer your previous question: all of them released in the west, save for generations and whatever othes in that style (double cross?). Started on the PS2 with the network adapter then got fully hooked on the PSP entries. My favorites are Freedom Unite and 4 Ultimate, though I GREATLY enjoyed Iceborne. I guess I just feel like the "hunting" part is being lost, cause there was no greater panic than almost beating a strong monster as it leaves the area only to realize you haven't painted it. Or even World with the tracks before you can see them on the map. I also miss fishing. Just seems like it's taking away all semblance of consequences for your actions, especially with wire fall escapes making committing to actions a bit moot. I don't mind it, but Rise especially feels like a wildly flashy action game than a deliberate style like before.

I'm a GL main on Rise and Sunbreak, and I know most of the things about it.

Wyrmstake is boost by Long. Sadly WS is entirely outclassed by Erupting Cannon in every single way. In fact, you're actively gimping yourself by running WS over EC in any of the 3 weapon types. EC buffs melee (and retains the buff even if you sheathe), which does actually matter, and it also connects into other moves way better:

Normal: Always wants EC. Normal doesn't have inherent stake buffs, has the weakest stakes of the bunch. Fullshell style dominates Normal, which is facilitated by Blast Dash and Reverse Dash. But after shelling and double melee, you can go into EC, poke, quick reload into more full shell combo, which vastly outdamages and is just flat out faster by a second than full shell, melee, into stakes

Wide: Always wants EC. EC buffs melee, which is 'nuff said. Also Reverse Dash's KO dmg is arguably better than Wide's Stake KO, which is hilariously one of the last few bastions of why you should ever use stakes on Wide, which is now no longer a point in its favor. The other Wide style that's popular is the shell shell shell combo, which the 3rd shell will become the WS/EC. Here, you never ever want to run WS because it flat out kills your DPS. EC can connect into guard reload, which lets you fully shell shell EC again.

Long: You can use WS here, IF you do the spam Bullet Barrage build, where you basically proc as much Redirection as possible and use Wirebug Whisperer 3. Your BB has slightly more damage with WS. But in exchange, now your BB cooldown phase is basically plagued by you having to run WS, which basically makes your combos much worse. If you ever accidentally go into WS, you're getting hit. Also while BB spam is good, if you miss one (and you WILL miss), you're basically doing worse DPS than every other styles. Also BB spam doesn't even do the highest DPS to begin with. It's great for staggering monsters, which can help in multiplayer, but also it'll knock other players away.

Also do not use the stupid stakes buff Rampage skill. It won't buff past shell lvl 8, which means you run this on a shell lvl 7 weapon, which makes you lose DPS in every other skills.

In base Rise, flashy styles look cool and all, but at the end of the day, it's just LR and HR. Good luck trying to find an opportunity to use WS against MR enemies. You're getting hit 100% unless you're using it on a downed monster, to which the better DPS is actually still fullshelling

The most optimal GL style right now is Normal Fullshell, but Wide Slap and triple shelling are also viable, latter mostly viable in that you get to run every defensive skill + artillery/load up, and you still do the same amount of damage, which means you'll basically never die. Long is mostly novelty. You're losing damage but essentially doing the same thing with Normal, which doesn't make sense unless you like Long that much, or you like the designs, which I certainly like how most Long weapons do. Range don't matter much when you can fly everywhere

If you're asking about Rise specifically, however, fullshelling is still the way to go. You're playing with Sunbreak buffs, first off, which made shelling incredibly powerful (was still the best pre-buff, which says a lot). Also Blast Dash has basically made fullshelling incredibly easy. In fact, it's found by most ppl that if you Blast Dash literally right in front of the monster, instantly slam down and full shell, that's the highest dps you can do because meleeing to get there or even reloading to slam down and full shell takes longer and does less damage. Most people who played GL since Rise forgets that stakes ever existed. They're an option you can go for when you're literally out of every option, and you'd rather stake than reload again. But I question if that situation actually exists. The only time it's great is if the monster is about to get away from you, and you're very slightly too far away to do full shell.

Sadly on base Rise, you have to rely on a very terrible silkbind skill called Sliding Dash. Using that skill will buff all your shelling/stakes/etc by like 20%, which sounds like a lot, but you lose the buff if you ever sheathe, and your Wirebug recovers slowly. You're better off just using your silkbinds defensively via Guard Edge. Actually they buffed that uppercut move in Sunbreak, and I find it to be quite good actually. But that's if you also remember to use your Wyvernfire often

Wyrmstake is boost by Long. Sadly WS is entirely outclassed by Erupting Cannon in every single way. In fact, you're actively gimping yourself by running WS over EC in any of the 3 weapon types. EC buffs melee (and retains the buff even if you sheathe), which does actually matter, and it also connects into other moves way better:

Normal: Always wants EC. Normal doesn't have inherent stake buffs, has the weakest stakes of the bunch. Fullshell style dominates Normal, which is facilitated by Blast Dash and Reverse Dash. But after shelling and double melee, you can go into EC, poke, quick reload into more full shell combo, which vastly outdamages and is just flat out faster by a second than full shell, melee, into stakes

Wide: Always wants EC. EC buffs melee, which is 'nuff said. Also Reverse Dash's KO dmg is arguably better than Wide's Stake KO, which is hilariously one of the last few bastions of why you should ever use stakes on Wide, which is now no longer a point in its favor. The other Wide style that's popular is the shell shell shell combo, which the 3rd shell will become the WS/EC. Here, you never ever want to run WS because it flat out kills your DPS. EC can connect into guard reload, which lets you fully shell shell EC again.

Long: You can use WS here, IF you do the spam Bullet Barrage build, where you basically proc as much Redirection as possible and use Wirebug Whisperer 3. Your BB has slightly more damage with WS. But in exchange, now your BB cooldown phase is basically plagued by you having to run WS, which basically makes your combos much worse. If you ever accidentally go into WS, you're getting hit. Also while BB spam is good, if you miss one (and you WILL miss), you're basically doing worse DPS than every other styles. Also BB spam doesn't even do the highest DPS to begin with. It's great for staggering monsters, which can help in multiplayer, but also it'll knock other players away.

Also do not use the stupid stakes buff Rampage skill. It won't buff past shell lvl 8, which means you run this on a shell lvl 7 weapon, which makes you lose DPS in every other skills.

In base Rise, flashy styles look cool and all, but at the end of the day, it's just LR and HR. Good luck trying to find an opportunity to use WS against MR enemies. You're getting hit 100% unless you're using it on a downed monster, to which the better DPS is actually still fullshelling

My goodness, thank you! I don't know half of these skills despite being in HR6, which means I have some actual investigation to do. Only thing I even recall is the reverse blast thing where you zoom around like a maniac, but I didn't know you could actually point that forward in a huge blast. I've been using the Ground Splitter (what you say is Sliding Dash) and trying to keep that along with the Quick Reload skill so I can crank out the stakes. Ground Split into them, spike them, then wyvernblast / full blast. I had no idea there were more moves I've been missing out on, so I definitely need to re-evaluate my silk bind skills. I assume I can only get some of these in MR then? Cause as far as I'm aware, I have all of my skills.

This is a good write up, though! I'm still in base at the moment as I chug through the rest of the stuff to get to MR where I can hopefully get to the good stuff. I'm just stuck with Long at the moment cause I think it's the freebie easy mode weapon if you bought Sunrise so I'll just keep my playstyle at the moment. I don't even think a monster I've killed yet gives Artillery yet, however I do have Load up so my Long lance has a respectable 5 shells for a full burst.
