I asked my boss about my bonus because it was lower than expected. And I just had a performance review where all I got were praises. Bonuses have been stealth cut for non tech roles basically. No announcements made and if I didnt ask my boss, no one would have said anything. I calculated that with my raise Im basically making the same as I was.

Yup. So not only am I not getting a raise Im essentially making less with inflation. Oh but leadership gave a big speech about why wages shouldnt match inflation and pointed to articles. They must know best /s

Time to brush up my resume.

Damn sorry Cleo - I remember you having had to change jobs a few times over the past few years.

Are you still thinking about going solo?

Tech market is crashing. So many layoffs everywhere. I think were going to be headed there if they are cutting non tech bonuses. Probably to keep the engineers/PMs as long as they can. But there are still lots of opportunities for recruiters. They must just think were too stupid to notice the shenanigans and will stay.

Yeah its been shitty. I have other reasons I want to leave but this sealed the deal. I havent been here a year yet but it sucks that I need to start looking.

I am but the market makes me pause. We did a calculation of our finances and also have to account for me not making money about 6 months while the business ramps up. So we will wait another year.

Unity and Niantic are laying off people now. Netflix, Redfin, Robinhood, Tesla, all have had lay offs. Coinbase rescinded hundreds of offers and laid employees off as well. Lots of news of hiring freezes everywhere. Its not looking good. Im going to try and jump ship while I can and try and pick a stable company that didnt hyper aggressively grow. My company has definitely over hired and I get the feeling the layoff axe is coming for us eventually.

My company has a maximum for raises of 4.5% and no bonuses.
I got the 4.5% this year but with inflation it doesn't feel like a raise. I feel like companies not giving raises that match inflation is just.....sigh.

My mother works in homecare, at night. I dont know how it is over there, but here they are legally forced to pay a supplement if you work at "bad times", like weekends or nights. So she is only working 70% timewise but getting paid for working 100% with the supplements.
Her union had been talking about "the big deal", getting a nice raise for years, and some years ago they managed to do so. They talked big about how much they cared for their workers and how hard they had been fighting for it. The only problem was that it would take 5 or so months before it would start to happen, but luckily the difference until then would be paid as a retroactive pay.
Time went on and she finally got her new paycheck, only to discover that she suddenly earned a little bit less.
After some digging around, she discovered that the "big union deal" had changed the definition of when the supplement was being paid out.
Saturday morning, which is a weekend, was now defined as Friday night, which gave less pay. Sunday night ended at 24:00, then it was Monday morning. The supplement hours were also changed and started later.

Its ridiculous. In my case the bonus is a huge factor in total comp. So them cutting it is a big deal. Im basically being paid the same but with inflation feels like less. From a multi billion dollar company, that is unacceptable.

Oh and the reason theyre giving for less bonus is we grew too fast in headcount so less bonus pool. But my job is literally to hire people. So in effect, the better I do my job the less money I make. Lol wut
