If it's not on the mandatory standardized test you take near the end of the school year, schools don't bother with it anymore.

Pretty much. Like, you have adults who are working and have the responsibility of being knowledgeable on taxes and stuff, yet even these people don't take the time to learn these things.
Why do we think high school kids, some with no job even, will care enough to actually learn these things?

Now, I think there is still some benefit to increasing awareness of these things at school and hopefully some young people become aware of it at a younger age. But I'm not optimistic that it would really impact much. Most of those who ignore it now would ignore it if they were 17 in high school...

Its baffling that people think most 14 year olds want to learn about taxes. Taxes aren't even that hard and if you want you can spend like 30$ a year for Turbotax or whatever and they'll literally just walk you through everything.

Also I did take a "Business" class in high school that taught me some about finances and junk - I don't remember a bit of it.

Aren't things like Compound Interest one of the backbones of early high school math classes?
