I didnt know if he meant premiering in SF 2 and my memory isnt that on point...

He has no particularly interesting relationships and has almost no impact on the various major storylines in the game. And his design is boring.

Neither are from the original SFII cast.

And yeah, Honda is definitely the least interesting outside of Ryu and Ken. Both of whom have "main character syndrome" keeping them more memorable.

I completely agree. In a franchise with visually interesting and larger than life looking characters, he's just an all-around super bland character that shows up way more than he should because of his SFII tenure.

I remember quite a few people using honda due to the ease of use. Zangief on the other hand, although he is my favorite, took a special kind of player to choose gief.

Guile - badass army dude
Ken - cocky fighter
Dhalsim - dude with stretchy powers
Zangief - beefy dude
Blanka - electric green Tarzan
Chun-Li - best fighter and hot
E. Honda - sumo
Balrog - Mike Tyson
Vega - flat-chested woman with a mask and claw (wait, that's a dude???)
Sagat - bald badass
M. Bison - electric dude in red Nazi uniform
Ryu - generic martial artist

I mean, he's iconic. But he's still mean to be the "normal" fighter of the game. Everyone else has some kind of gimmick or identity which makes them stand out.

He's like what Dorothy is to Wizard of Oz or what Luke (originally just a teenage farm boy) was to the first Star Wars movie.

Blanka is arguably one of the most well known SF characters behind Ryu, Ken, and Chun. And his looks certainly makes him more distinct than those 3.

Haven't played a SF game since II on the SNES. Just looked them up. Only ones I didn't remember were Vega and Balrog.

Of the originals, it's... really not anyone. Everyone remembers hundred hand slap. Each of the original 8 has something to them that fuckin' everyone knows about. If anything, it's probably Bison who is the least memorable, in the sense that literally every other OG has a move that even complete casuals can recall in some sense.

Because being a green monster with big orange hair is notable when everyone else is normal skin tones and upright posture. Anything notable is generally easier to remember. It's not a matter of being good or well developed, he's just really easy to remember, and thus be more well known.

Blanka was def one of the few I remembered without having to look up. But I didn't remember his name off hand. Not only were his skin and hair unique, but so was his fighting style. I mostly remember the people with very unique fighting styles along with the main characters.

Without question, I would legitimately put some of the losers from Street Fighter III like Remy and Twelve as being more interesting/memorable than E Honda, even if the former I remember mostly because "he's Guile in this game that doesn't have Guile".

That's why I said "arguably". Even then, the SFII cover art that most people know about featured Blanka along with Ryu and Chun, two of the big three.
Blanka has an extremely notable presence in the series. He's far from the least memorable.

Gameplay wise out of the original cast Vega is the most meh to me. He just has that wall climb gimmick on his stage which is such a bizarre gimmick as stage specific moves have never been done since.

This is so true lol. So many characters from future games are more beloved and noteworthy than Honda.
If it was announced that in SF6 he would be replaced by someone from Third Strike -- say Dudley or Makoto -- literally no one would be upset.

E. Honda is average in SFV, and the only World Warriors that get picked less than him right now are Dhalsim (Who is pretty hard to learn) and Blanka (Who is the worst in the game probably).

I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about how cool the character was, not where they place on some tier list nobody gives a shit about except for the hard FGC players. E Honda's a boring as fuck character who plays alright, just like how Rufus and Abigail are fucking horrendous piles of garbage that play good.

The original 8 are still heavily used to this day in SFV.

The 4 bosses, Vega, Balrog, Sagat and Bison are used heavily in competition as well.

I always remember E.Honda just because his stage was so unique with it being a bathhouse with a giant advert looking thing in it.

It's real hard to make a rikishi interesting, since even irl, their whole lives are literally 24/7 Sumo until they retire. Even their fucking wedding gifts partially go to their stablemaster.

Yeah. Even characters like Blanka and Zangief have their place from a lore/story standpoint due to their back stories and established relationship with other characters.

E. Honda have none of that. He's just a sumo that does sumo things.

If were talking about backstory and lore, then Blanka, Zangief and Dhalsim dont exactly have anything much different and/or more exciting than Honda.

Honda = Wants to show that sumo is the best fighting style.

Blanka = Mysterious jungle man who discovers his momma. Loves his momma.

Gief = Fights for Mother Russia.

Sim = Fights for a higher consciousness and to help his impoverished homeland

I guess with Blanka, you could say he befriends Dan & Sakura? But hes usually just seen as someone who is just there at Dans dojo.
