Sorry if thats personal, but my cousin said her periods hurt her each month, like REALLY hurt, and I feel like thats not something thats supposed to be happening.

Im probably gonna tell her dad. I think shes embarrassed to tell him, but I feel like he should probably make her a doc appointment to be safe.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

She said it really hurts. I was trying to Google what could cause it and I saw something called pcos that can cause menstrual pain, but I dont know enough about her symptoms or like, female problems to know if thats what it is.

I cant go to her mom with it cuz shes being raised by her dad, but I could tell her (our) aunt and maybe she could take her to a doc.

Oh sorry, I shouldnt have phrased the title like it only applied to girls. I wasnt sure how to put it.

If youre not gonna be helpful, can you just like, not post in the topic? It makes it harder to find an answer if I have to sift through joke posts.

My wife gets really bad cramps during her periods. Idk if the bleeding itself hurts or not though.

Yes theyre generally painful and can vary. If they are too painful though it may be a symptom of endometriosis. Sadly doctors rarely give a shit about womens health and lack empathy towards it. I have endo and had terrible periods as a kid and doctors just shrug.

My cousin is 14 if that helps. Is that too young for endometriosis? Is it something a primary doc could diagnose or would she have to see a gynecologist?

Yeah PCOS can cause really bad pains like that. My wife has it and like someone else mentioned the pain can get so bad you're near bed ridden for a couple days. Can't really do much about PCOS.

I started my period at 10 and had extreme pain. Also worth mentioning I do also have PCOS. I do think its worth seeing a doctor but chances are at this age they wont do anything about. If endometriosis gets bad enough, surgery can be an option but it often just comes back.

What is her diet like? Processed foods and sugars can make the pain a lot worse. Generally there isnt much to be done other than manage symptoms and try to eat healthy and exercise.

I'd maybe push for her to book an appointment herself if she's already embarrassed about it with her dad.

But yeah, as others said, many doctors can dismiss these symptoms so do be prepared for that unfortunately.

Yeah I decided to bring it up to our aunt. Shes gonna talk with her and figure out the severity of it and stuff, and then make her a doc appointment.

Thanks for all the responses everyone!
