That and performance issues were easily the worst part of 9. Especially a let down coming from the setting in 8. But 9 is still awesome

These games are coming out left and right lol. I remember finally buying Ys VIII, then shortly after I find out that IX is already a thing. So I added it to my wishlist. And how here's X. I still haven't even played VIII yet. >_> Hell the only one I've beat was 1 lol. Started 2 but hadn't beaten it.

Ugh I thought he looked young in that art but I was hoping I was just seeing things. I like how him and Dogi especially are looking OLD

It takes them like 3 or 4 years between each game

And it takes like 2 years for them to come to the west

That's what I was planning. I only played 1 since I started it way back in 2014 when a close friend randomly gifted the 1 & 2 bundle to me on Steam. Didn't like it (only made it out of the city). Came back a year ago to give it another shot since it's really short and ended up liking it. Probably not gonna finish 2 though, but I'm definitely going to 8 next. Or maybe Memories of Celceta if its worth it.

Ys souls? Hell naw. Ys is supposed to be mindless fun like dynasty warriors. I love souls games but not every game needs to be soulslike.

I'm not sure how I feel about the alleged removal of the party system. I quite enjoyed that part of VIII and IX. Also, it's hard to get too excited until pictures of Adol's new harem appear.

Ys and Tales are pretty similar in that most of the games are terrible but long time fans refuse to admit it

The waifus in 8 were trash but 9 has the cow girl.

- Adol looks like a young boy, around the age of Ys I & II.
- A woman who looks to be the main heroine is shown. Uses a one-handed ax. Their arms are connected by an aura-shaped string/cord.
- 1 versus 1 combat is a focus, with huge changes to the party member switching mechanic and weapon attributes. Personally, this seems akin to Ys VI, though it isnt entirely certain yet.
- Souls-like inspirations are stated, but not overt.

- Mentions an emphasis on providing new gameplay, as well as new scenarios, actions, and systems.
- The title will take place in Eresia, though the writer of the Famitsu article paints this as speculation.
- Kondo emphasizes that Ys X is not a full-on Souls-like, as there is simply inspiration taken from the genre
- Kondo recommends any Ys game for newcomers. Later games like Ys VIII and IX are explicitly stated and shouldnt be intimidating because theyre standalone.
- Ys Xs story will not be centered around the Romun Empire
- The Party Member system where you change characters and weapon attributes (Slash, Pierce & Strike) at will has received major changes, though it hasnt yet been elaborated how
- Kondo heavily implies a multiplatform release.
- Adol will be around 17 years old, his age during Ys 1 & 2

Not really. Tales has a few good games and a few bad games, Ys is exclusively mediocre games that manage to be dated in every department.

Cautiously optimistic

It sounds like it's not full on Souls. I don't mind them changing things up because 8 and 9 play very similarly.
