So I spent some time checking this out yesterday. Depressing, but kinda fascinating.

You can enter your address and see what gun incidents have been reported in your area since 2014. Red dots represent incidents with fatalities, yellow are ones with injuries only.

I wasnt terribly surprised with what I found by where I live. The closest incident was 0.4 miles away.

Whats scary is that this probably doesnt capture everything. I know for a fact there was a shooting death close to me from several months ago that isnt on here. If you click on the dots, you can find archived news articles that tell the story in each case.

Only one shooting in my area, it was a murder/suicide. How the hell did I not hear about that? A father shot his wife, daughter and himself. I drive by their neighborhood every single day, it's maybe 5 minutes away.

Not a single one for my hometown.
We have very strict gun control.

Yup, that appears to be the case. No injury/fatality, no report here.

When clicking the about the data link, it actually looks like it only covers everything through Dec 31 2020. That explains why the shooting I mentioned in the OP isnt here yet, as that took place in early 2022. But yeah, if they update this once a year then a shitton more will be added later this year when they load 2021 data.

But scary to think that a year and a half of activity isnt even on here now, yeah.
