Just why? Why Yoshi P? I started with Black Mage. What sin did I commit? :(

Literally the worst glamour/style/dress up system of any MMO I've played by a significant margin, the the point they've gone out of their way to make it bad. Now, it does have some good points, but largely just utter garbage with no change in sight.

Other MMO's I can just slap whatever fancy outfit I want, with few to no restriction, and it just applies on top of whatever you're wearing? Simple right? You'd expect critically acclaimed... to largely follow this method, no? SWTOR and ESO do it this way. Dunno about Fallout 76. Maybe others do as well?

But what does the genius FF14 do?

Restrictions! Restrictions everywhere! Limited by class(job) being the most annoying one, and for little to no reason. "preserve the class style integrity my arse" If you claim that, I will slap you with my tank dressed as a chicken, in a bikini or my dragoon dress as a sexy playboy bunny.

Yes, I did just spend lots of MGP buying outfits to discover I can't use them on anything but a healer class. Yes, I am an idiot for thinking it'd work in a sensible fashion and not actually checking. But I'm an annoyed idiot.

All MGP gear has no class restrictions tho

The only MGP gear with class restrictions are weapons and I don't recall a bikini weapon

I bought some "moon priestess" stuff that is only useable by the healer jobs though. A fair amount of the stuff sold is as you say, but not the fancy stuff I wanted :(

You have to store the gear in the glamour dresser and that's pretty limited in space

What? It originally was 400 which is a lot, it was doubled to 800.

It's beyond dumb. They really need to copy WoW's tmog system. If you had the item at some point, you can glamour it. That's it, no holding on to it in a special, limited space wardrobe. No carrying around all these plates and prisms and weird shit. Just, I looted that item once, now I can glamour it. The end.

Doubtful though tbh. They recently removed an entire gear slot from the game because they said it would free up database storage and you couldn't really see them on glamour anyways (belts iirc). Big yikes.

Maybe? I have no idea if its found elsewhere - I just saw it for sale at the Golden Saucer and presumed the game had a sensible outfit system.

Lesson learnt. Guess I have to play a healer now dammit.

I am also obsessed with glamour in this game. It legit sucks that the system is so damn limited. SE does this all over the game in attempt to limit server data or force you to buy more retainers. Game would be so much better if they were not greedy in this regard.

Space Barbie is what I spent most of my time doing when I played SWTOR as well. Definitely some of the better parts of an MMO when they actually enable and encourage it.

Laughs in FFXI. Want to be a good THF? You are wearing green pants, a red body harness, and a pointy hat. Took over a decade before they finagled a way to give you the cosmetic appearance of gear you owned.

Tbf, I'm pretty sure it tells you what jobs the equipment is limited to in its info box. It'll say "all classes" or list whatever like "WHM BLM RDM" etc.

Glamour system is pretty fucked, though. But my main issue is with something different.

Oh it does. I just naively assumed the glamour system wouldn't care about that because why the fuck would it?

It legit never even occurred to me to even think it'd matter. I'm not trying to actively wear it as my actual equipment. I just want the look.

I'm gonna be seething for days. >:(

They do encourage and enable it, just the restrictions on it are pretty tight as a means to save on server usage.

It is still 400. It is rumored to double to 800 in patch 6.2. I am not believing it until see it in the patch notes though.

Maybe I was a little harsh, but I'm still ANGRY dammit. "Server usage" seems a dubious reason though tbh.

Role restrictions are a bit of a problem. More than job gear restriction what really gets me is how each expansion they make 8+3 unique gear sets for crafter and gatherer classes that and locked to each class. That is a HUGE amount of unique gear sets barely anyone uses and absolutely no one glamours, considering they only do about 4 unique armor sets across the 7 roles per dungeon/raid, and gear sets are frequently recolours of old gear.

It is also why I wasn't particularly aggravated by most loot in the new pvp vendor being pallets swaps of old job gear but with same job restrictions. They have nicer textures but what is even the point of that?

It's one of a small amount of things WoW does better. I think they've mentioned it being an issue they'll get to eventually, it's just not high priority.

Because 1.0 was a huge disaster and 2.0 was such a rush job we're still feeling the effects today

Glamour is the worst part of FFXIV.

How it should work is, you get a piece of gear, it is forever unlocked in your glamor dresser, even if you get rid of the piece, your account should have it "checked off" for future use in glams.

Why doesn't it just automatically use them/hand them over? Why do I have to do a few needless extra clicks?

Yes it's incredibly minor, but so infuriating.
