Because they evolved different paths

the largest wild dogs are grey wolves and a larger body size would be a handicap as they are endurance hunters.

Dogs have pitbulls.

I think it could also do with the prey/how they hunt.

like, I think most cats hunt alone with the exception of lions (but they can also be solo hunters), while wolves and dogs are more pack animals.

and with the pack, they can hunt down animals even bigger than they are while cats need to be able to overpower their prey, and they all kinda adapted in their respective ways.

Isnt it just about what they hunt? Like theres small and large cats as well. The large cats hunt large animals. Theres not many wolves that hunt large animals I thought. Hunting tactics would also play into it, in that wolves rely more on their pack than cats do
