Players cannot just fly from space to their landing spot in an immersive way. From orbit, you pick a location to land, and then the game transitions to that area without actually flying there. So, planetary navigation is more like fast travel. Starfield is not a seamless universe. According to Howard, space and a planet's surface are two separate "realities."

"People have asked, 'Can you fly the ship straight down to the planet?' No," the Bethesda boss told IGN in an interview (below). "We decided early in the project that the on-surface is one reality, and then when you're in space, it's another reality."

this is because they refuse to let go of that horrible game engine they use isn't it

I was pretty lukewarm on Starfield since the reveal, but yeah they can't even give us features a game had years ago

I love No Man's Sky, but it's procedurally generated game with pretty lifeless worlds. They aren't the only people doing seamless transition because they are the only developer that tries anymore.

I would never expect it from an open-world space RPG. A game would be 1000 hours long or only have like 3 planets.

Play Star Citizen. That game is a broken piece of shit and the planets are more barren than NMS but going from space to planet seamlessly is the best part of that shit. its a huge missing feature. I'm assuming people that don't like planet exploration don't skim the atmosphere so you can get to the other side of the planet in two minutes and instead fly lower to the ground where it takes two hours looking at nothing to get to the other side? >_>

The real fun in any Bethesda game is trying to see how many batshit insane mods you can install and still get the game to run.

I didn't assume that. Seemed pretty obvious from the ship landing in the beginning that it wasn't seamless.

I could literally withdraw all of my checking account, apply for a $250,000 loan, get it approved, light it all on fire and it would still be a better investment than Star Citizen.

Free flying in space is fun at first but it quickly loses its luster and becomes a chore.
