I use a electric kettle, as they would be called in the UK. I forget what they are called here in America. I plug it in, fill it with water, turn on a button and I have boiled water in like a minute

It's much faster than with a stove top kettle

I dont know if a microwave is capable of brining water to a boil but maybe it can

It can but because the energy dissipates immediately it cools down much faster after. A kettle has the advantage of retaining some heat for a while.

That's how I make my tea. Large mug of water, boil it in the microwave, then put 6 teabags in it.
