Once the metoo movement came out that made the Roman Polanski thing make a bit more sense to me. Its just the way Hollywood is. You had to give a little to get by in the industry. So why would they blame a child rapist because its just a common thing that should be swept under the rug.

He's from France and they don't extradite their own citizens.

Also he is kind of a pariah there. He couldn't find funding there at all for his film coming out this year so he had to sell it to another country.

And that proves what here? That it's okay to make sweeping generalizations about millions of people? To insinuate an entire nation of people are rapists or rape apologists? Should I conclude you both feel it's okay to say the same about the entirety of the US? Nope. Its not just about her. Its entirely possible Polanski is assaulting other young girls.

If I remember right, he was married to the pregnant victim in those killings. But he wasn't there when it happened or he'd have been killed too. He's been milking sympathy for decades over that. I dont know how sad he was or is about it. I kinda feel like he didn't really care that much and moved on. It doesn't excuse raping a child

He was married to Sharon Tate at the time of the murder, and she was pregnant with his child

I think it was also that he was so esteemed that people didn't bad mouth him because they wanted to be in one of his pictures.

Pretty sure most of Hollywood has distanced themselves from Polanski and stopped defending him at this point. But tbh it was never really "defending" and moreso separating the art from the artist.

His films are super important to the medium regardless of how disgusting of a human being he is.

I've only seen one Roman Polanski film and that's only because I didn't realize he was the director. It was a crap movie too -- The Ninth Gate.

That's how I want to remember him. "You're shit and your movie is shit."
