I just hate it, what's the point of camping if you're just going to tow a miniature version of your house to a miniature version of your neighborhood and sleep there for a night. Camping was supposed to be lugging a tent into the woods setting up shop and making some hot dogs. But now thats "roughing it", apparently. Campers and rv's are just tiny houses.
This rant is probably waaaaaay more meaningless then the others here but this irrational anger towards camping has been gnawing at me for the past 8yrs.

I kind of agree. RVs/campers are nice, but I don't consider it camping. I only go in a tent. But I have a lot of other gear that helps, like lanterns, propane stove, air mattress. It's easier on the wife and kids for sure. And I'm spoiled with having battery operated fans and stuff for when it's super hot.

so dont camp that way

You can break out a tent outside the camper and make hot dogs.

honestly as someone who loves the outdoors camping kind of sucks. I only really do it when Im backpacking.

So dont go camping that way..? Stop worrying about what other people are doing and worry about your own self.

In my experience RV campers are usually in a separate area then the type of camping you're describing.

Definitely called "glamping" now.

Fire and beer is all it takes, which I do in my backyard now.

As someone that has multiple kind of tents based on the kind of camping we are doing, multiple camping hammocks and also own a trailer. Hauling your trailer is still camping. Where you're going and what you intend on doing will change the kind of shelter you want to provide yourself.

When you're going out to the lake for a weekend of heavy fishing (and drinking), an AC'd camper is pretty nice.

I feel the same way. I detest how people say they're camping when they're actually glamping. If they wanna do it, fone, but own up to the fact you're sitting in an air conditioned trailer five feet away from your neighbour's air conditioned trailer.

My favourite type of camping is taking a canoe, and following a route that's like 30km a day on rivers/lakes with some portages thrown in for good measure. You never camp at the same location twice, you bring out what you bring in, you get to see a lot of areas others won't, and you feel like you've accomplished something at the end.

I understand that's not for everyone, but it's the best way to camp, imo.

I love camping and have done my share of it over the years, but sleeping on the ground in a tent isn't as fun as you start to get older.

Last time I slept in a tent I woke up so sore and hurtin' in the morning.

All I know is that if you're definition requires shitting in a bucket you overshot it

This. Camping is literally about getting away from everything else. And that can include getting away from those who don't camp the same way you like to.

I definitely also like more rustic camping tho. If I can have a bed at the end of the night, I really need it for my back tho. Im not gonna fuck up my whole next day just to feel manly for sleeping on the bumpy ass hard ground. Other than that, I can pretty much do everything else from scratch.

Funny, because I find sleeping on the hard ground actually helps my back be less sore, haha. Especially if I stretch before bed and after I wake up.

I could probably drop the $60-100 they seem to cost

i only camp when doin something else cool. fishing, mountain biking, hiking, fucking with telescope etc. so having a nice camper so i dont have to fuck with hours of setup sounds rad to me. i dont have one but would like a tear drop style with a bed and shower at least.

Last time I went camping I went with two swinger friends (a guy and a girl) and we went up on top of a snowy mountain. They were experienced campers and I had just gotten out of a relationship and was ready for some new experiences.

I told them I didnt have any snow clothes, they said they had everything for me, all Id need to buy was snow shoes. So I buy snow shoes. we went on top of this mountain and pitched tents, built a fire, and went on a trip. Then they realized they forgot a bag. A bag with all the food. And my gloves. And my snow socks.

so were on top of this mountain with two cans of chili. Straight tripping. We eat these two cans of chili like hobos over a fire, straight out of the can, passing it around two bites at a time.

eventually, I head to my tent to try and fall asleep, freezing my ass off. I bundle up in my sleeping bag, and shiver myself to sleep. Eventually, after sleeping for a couple hours, the snow falling down so hard completely collapsed my tent on top of me. I woke up completely buried alive in a tent covered with snow. I could barely breathe, and my tent was zipped up so I couldnt find the zipper. Took me about twenty minutes of this to finally get out, and Im absolutely having a panic attack. I finally get out, in the snow, no shoes or socks, only in long underwear, completely disoriented I look for my friends, theyre nowhere to be found.

eventually I make it to the truck we came in, and theyre fucking in the truck. I pound on the door and they open and see how fucked up I am. I get into the heated truck and curl into a ball trying to get my heat back.

they packed everything up as I came in and out of consciousness, and we drove home silently.

havent talked to them since.

probably wont ever go camping again
