More security and police in schools would lead to more school shootings? I don't really get the logic. I'm not saying this is THE solution but it seems like it could help at least a little bit, assuming that it's not the Uvalde PD we're talking about here.

It would be the police doing the school shootings

I mean schools have had resource officers forever and I've never heard of them doing a school shooting. Though granted I haven't heard of one stopping one either.

I honestly think the most effective thing we can do is raise the age of buying a gun with more extensive background checks. Honestly I would make it 25 even rather than 21.

"We dont want schools to be run like a prison and this will affect minority students and make them feel unwelcome"

Is what i have seen in regards to that.

More school resource officers and single entry points to schools with a check point (and staggered start stop times) is the most realistic and effective solution that can be implemented RIGHT NOW to help curb any threat from the outside to a school.

Then we can go into better training for staff and students. Lockdown for each class room. Better cameras and staff to watch the halls during transit times. That would be the next logical step that can be easily implemented when the next semester starts.

"Grants for states" makes it sound optional or that the states can steal the money and use it for something else like with Covid.

Any bipartisan deal always turns into a cash giveaway for states or rich people.

The idea of police/security guards in school is absolutely fucked up. How did America decide this was better than gun control?

I bet you theres some people out there unironically trying to figure out how nukes can solve this issue just like there were with that tanker/rockslide issue a while back.

Yes. My high schools make up left me as an extreme minority. Like .1% of the student body.

I love posts like this that are completely 100% serious by the person that posted them but absolutely batshit insane to well over half the population of the US and the entirety of the rest of the world.

Why is that third one worded so weirdly? The fuck is a "boyfriend loophole"? I've never heard of that.

Basically, a lot of laws that ban people from possessing firearms if they commit domestic abuse only apply if parties are current or former spouses, current or former cohabitants, or share a child in common.

It leaves a pretty big gap for people who abuse their girlfriend but have never been married to them, live with them or have a child together. Basically it is expanding a law that barely works anyway. Ultimately youll still have people convicted of domestic abuse continue to carry guns around illegally, like the person who was shot in Kenosha.

Even though this bill does virtually nothing, at least it has a chance of passing.
