Got covid and felt some nostalgia might help a bit. Feels a bit weird to be a 32 year old "man" and watching a cartoon about babies, but eh. Watched a couple episodes and now watching the one where Tommy and Chuckie get left at a toy store. Some thoughts and cases of overthinking about things:

-The parents need their children taken way.
-Besides that, the jokes/banter between the adults is the best part sometimes.
-Angelica is going to grow up to be a high ranking sociopathic CEO like her mom or a serial killer.
-Apparently time travel exists in the form of a children's toy. An animatronic ape toy gets sent back to the crossing of the Delaware.
-The toy store has a big toy train that looks like it's going 100mph.
-Store seems to have awesome toys, but has a dedicated creepy clown toy aisle.
-Thorg hungry! Thorg want eat!

How many past the radar dirty jokes have you found?

Grandpa likes to watch Space Vixens when the kids have gone to bed.

I watched a lot of that show as a kid, but I don't think I really liked it. I was more of a cartoon network fan.

While Rugrats was one of my favorites as a kid and more of a Nick fan, I know the feeling about watching shows even though you didn't really like them. Usually because there was nothing else on. For me the first thing to come to my head is Catdog.

I thought this cartoon was always aimed at like 30-something year old moms.

The Rugrats world was very surreal for a show about babies going on half-imaginary adventures. Aside from the stuff you mentioned, here are some other things to think about:

-Stu invented an anti-gravity field to be used for a playpen. And it's never spoken of again after it fries the power grid in the surrounding area.
-Aliens exist
-Angelica is 3 and can speak in complete sentences on par with an elementary school kid (presumably the adults can't understand the babies)

The parents are so funny.

There's an episode where Chaz says something about watching the House Ways and Means on CSPAN.

Oh yeah. That was the It's a Wonderful Life parody episode. Angels also exist.

Am watching some more because why not? Currently watching the one where they go out to the country for the Pickles family reunion. Tommy and Angelica are put with the other little Pickles cousins. One is a big fat redneck type who always says "I"m hungry". He asks Angelica if she wants to wrestle and bets he can "make you squeal like a piggy". Uhh...

Man. None of those cousins are ever seen again. Not even in All Grown Up from what I remember.

This episode nailed certain southern relatives especially that one aunt.

After Emmett, my favorite is Tony Pickles who seems to be a stereotypical NYC Italian.

And the next episode is the one with Lonely Space Vixens. lol

Now Grandpa is trying to get some from an old lady friend.

The twins remember being breast fed at one point.

Also the Chuckies mum episode ;_; Legit tear jerker.

I just recently rewatched Rugrats (well the first three pre-renewal seasons) and its still so good. First season definitely has some weeeiiiirrd episodes but theyre still good.

I've been randomly picking between anything pre-Dill. Yeah, the first season is a bit weird like that one where Tommy gets kidnapped.

First 3 seasons before the show gets revived were definitely the best, but my favorite episode still remains Vacation. The one where they go to Las Vegas. Once Dil got introduced is when the show truly took a downhill turn.

You may want to rewatch Hey Arnold. I found it to still be very good show.

I've never watched any past the first movie. Tommy's little brother just creeped me out.

Its weird to remember that this show was probably the most popular cartoon, and then Spongebob came and changed everything.

Yes, Hey Arnold really holds up today. Those 90s Nicktoons were mostly timeless.

I rewatched the whole show about 10-ish years ago. Still held up great and I still loved it. It was one of my favorites as a kid.

Yeah, it did seeem like Rugrats was their #1 show before SB came along. I still love those early Spongebob seasons too. I always forget SB came out around in 99. Just feels like it came later like in 01 or something.

Alex Trebek lent his voice in another episode too where he plays a game show host. Kinda cool they got both of those guys.

Tbh, I could never get past the revolting art style. I thought it was hideous as a kid and though I can "deal" with it now, I still don't think it's appealing in the slightest.

That was a king of the hill quote that someone pasted on a rugrats meme image. Rugrats never said that.

Some more thoughts

-With all the cookies and candy Angelica eats, she's going to be a type 2 diabetic at a young age.
-Jalapeno and bubblegum pizza exists
-A rec center has a sauna room, and when the outside lever that increase the heat is pulled it blocks the door making it unable to be opened inside. Didi and Betty get trapped in it. It's like something out of one of the Hitman games. I hope they sued. Also, the babies hurt a few people in a gym by tampering with their exercise equipment.

And youll never see your mom or your dad or dumb old dog ever again! Ahhahahahaaheehehahaah

That show is hard to watch as an adult, especially if you have kids. I remember in one of the very first episodes, all the babies get out of the backyard and manage to wander several yards over, where the only reason they don't get mauled by a giant dog is because Tommy's dog miraculously rescues them at the last second. The adults had no idea. Hits a little too close

the babies were invisible to outsiders, but their parents could see them. they just tried not to, usually successfully

I love the ice cream mountain one

Rugrats is great, >.< . Now that I'm older and understand the jokes I missed as a kid, I actually find it better than when I was a kid, and I loved it then, too.

Rugrats died after Dill was introduced

There were still some good episodes here and there post-Dil. It's after Kimi got introduced that it stopped being good.
