There's a quote from Square Enix circa FF13 where they're talking about how turn-based games are outdated and that games need more input to stay relevant, and to this day I disagree with that and think it's a reductive point of view that misses what makes JRPGs fun for people who like them. That being said, FF7R was the point at which Final Fantasy as an action RPG felt like it truly paid off. The combination of pause menus and fully fledged action combat was a fantastic mix. And FF16 looks like it's going to take that style of gameplay over the top in an original setting with original characters. It's gritty as hell, and it looks fucking fantastic. SF6 and GoW are gonna be Day One buys, too.
