Imagine thinking allowing children to catch SARS unchecked (with tens of millions STILL unvaccinated, including newborns and toddlers all under 5) wouldn't be a bad thing.

Just imagine it.

Gotta support the mass gaslighting somehow. Can't have anything going against the narrative that living with this was the right way to go; that forcing kids back to school to get SARS was the right call. Gotta make sure anyone still taking COVID seriously are the crazy ones.

And I have plenty idea what it's like to be one considered I helped raise my brother and sister (her from infancy) while my single mother did her thing. I'm talking diaper changes, feeding, rocking to sleep, burping. The fucking works. Also dated a chick with a kid for three years--though he was 2 to 5.

What even point are you trying to make here?

*facepalm*

You do realize this isn't the only study supporting this, right? There are also studies from OG SARS that show a link to post-infection hepatitis.

I didn't just take this one study and come to the conclusion, nor did the doctor I quoted (or anyone in on med Twitter, for that matter).

I dont know how to explain to you that 2 and a half years of lost social interaction for a child is a hell of a lot different than the couple weeks or so when right-wingers started screeching about lockdowns

even as a new parent we are constantly making risk assessments about what to do with our child, where its safe to put him, what to feed him, where to take him, etc.

this is another thing to worry about but it is exceedingly rare, serious covid in children remains rare as well and yes, its all something to consider but ultimately its just another of the tough decisions one has to make on a daily basis

tl;dr: I get it, youre on a high horse, have fun up there

Not sure where we had 2.5 years of lost social interactions for children. Schools have been back in session nationwide since last year.

Not quite.

It was sending kids back to school when:
-we didn't have vaccine approval for 6-11
-lifting of mask requirements in schools (though this varied by state, currently no state has a mask requirement for school)

But it was also the fact that we let it spread unchecked in general while aforementioned age group couldn't get vaccinated, and then we are still allowing it to spread unchecked with kids under 5 not able to get vaccinated.

I tagged him because we've had many exchanges about COVID for the past year or so, most instigated by him. He'll either enter a topic about COVID and post some passive aggressive comment clearly directed to me or he will enter a topic of mine to argue and then randomly duck out.

Did I have to tag him? No. But this was an argument we had previously so I figured I'd bring him in to get his thoughts.

Also, I've had 2.5 years of opportunities to say "I told you so" for many reasons. It isn't my style. I wish I were wrong about it all.

You still never apologized for how you treated me using your main. I tried having a productive conversation where I was giving a pretty balanced response, but since my thoughts werent as extreme as yours, you insulted me and called me names, just as I have seen you do with others. And I am not even an anti-vaxxer / anti-masker. I did make a flippant response at that time, which I DID apologize for, but you admitted nothing and never apologized at all. You seemed to gain awareness and gave a blanket apology when your main was suspended. But now I see you behaving the same way, and tagging him just to insult is bullying.

I'm going to he honest with you, I wrote you off a long time ago as a bad faith actor pretending to be a liberal. If I am wrong, I apologize.

What names did I call you? I remember the exchange and yes, I was aggressive in it, but I genuinely cannot remember what names I called you.

As for Eel, I'm not trying to bully him. I don't think I could if I tried--pretty sure I am the least of his worries. But, I will not tag him anymore, per his request, and I won't even engage him anymore. I don't think I have for a while anyway.

I promise I am not in bad faith. But I do have a bad habit of joking around, so I can be dry or facetious or deadpan. It works well in-person, but not always here. I really am a liberal, pretty strong one for most issues, but I have a bit of libertarian streak about some things. So you are wrong and I accept your apology? :)

I don't remember what you said vs AssultTank, and honestly he was worse. It's alright, but I found it upsetting to be called a selfish right winger who only cares about concerts when the truth of the matter was I was trying to be empathetic about what people go through in regard to mental health and economic hardship and also how children's education (including social) is being hampered.

Also, most of my comments were about how do we handle this stuff long term as it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I also admitted I didn't have the answers. Basically, as I have stated many times, I don't think it is black or white.

I can see that. I am in a heavily blue area (metro Twin Cities, MN) and almost everyone I know is liberal (other than a few out of state family members who are Trumpers). Many of my friends are exceedingly liberal, including non-binary and trans. Also, one of my daughters seems to somewhere within the LGBTQ+ community (not sure where yet). The idea that I am faking being left wing is kind of insulting.

Also, I think being in a heavily blue area, I have seen how almost everyone is no longer practicing the same Covid habits anymore. Of course, we are all double vaccinated and boosted and aren't hanging out in crowded clubs and shit. Although, I do have a bachelor party tomorrow night, as I am a groomsman for a wedding on Saturday. I am lucky I got Covid when I did, and not several days later.

Correct. And, I don't mean this in a argumentative way, but I think the same applies to your situation. You're in a heavily blue area, yes? Or, at least, a heavily vaccinated area. Setting the debate of mitigation efforts being dropped too early aside, I imagine whatever public health measures were in place, your area followed them pretty well. Again, assuming you're in a blue area.

Anyway, I apologize for tagging you. It was childish and unnecessary. I assure you I will not be chasing you down or engaging you about COVID in the future. Other than our differences on this subject, you do seem like you're on the right side of everything else so it isn't fair for me to write you off like I do.

And @bsp77 is right. Can't be turning over a new leaf while acting like this. Thanks for keeping me in check.
I really appreciate this post. Rare for people to apologize on CE. I have had to do it a few times for either being too blunt or for my sense of humor. I usually mean well, but once again, my personality works better in-person. Although I can be flat out rude to people for being sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc and I don't apologize for that.

And once again, I apologize for my flippant and facetious remarks in the past, as that probably is why you thought I was in bad faith and probably has clouded all interactions since.

Also, I am fine now, just some lingering sinus stuff. I had a bunch of flu-like symptoms back on Friday and Saturday. My oldest daughter brought it into the household. From what I can tell, she got it during her final exam week at school. While masked theoretically. I make my kids wear their masks everywhere, although it wouldn't surprise me if the oldest took hers off. All my daughters and my gf then got it. Seems my ex wife (their mom) was spared lol

Luckily I seem to no longer have Covid or be contagious (test is negative now), as I have a bachelor party tonight.
