A completely dumb idea, and it lends itself ways for you to just completely break the game by abusing the card and junction systems while staying low-leveled. Just a weird strategy for them coming off of FF7.

Another thing, this music is amazing. Just very chill. The garden, the world map, even the battle theme are all very pleasant.

One last thing, the remaster has made this game look so much better than when I played it 10 years ago. Just very good-looking. Can't wait to play FF9 remaster after this one if it's gonna look even better.

I started FF8 for the first time recently. Could not get into it. >_> Last thing I did was that fire cavern trial (which I think is fucking odd you get penalized for finishing too fast) in the very beginning and then being able to do random encounters.

Yeah the enemies level with you and junction system was dumb as fuck. They wanted to be different from the traditional JRPG I guess.

The idea is to prevent grinding, because if you level up, the enemies do too, so you have less incentive to grind. It's also meant to force you to rely on the Junction System, since traditional grinding gives you less power than junctions. Of course the whole thing is exploitable and it's easy to break the game, but I am sympathetic to the philosophy behind it, even if the execution was off.

Dunno why, though. FF games were always easy and just playing normally would be usually enough to finish most of the game. Most of the time you grind it's to level up materia, limit breaks, learn magic from espers and things like that.

i totally get this, i just don't agree with it. maybe i'm just a traditionalist when it comes to jrpgs and grinding as a whole. i mean hey i did beat this game by grinding before but it was a pain in the ass so idk

You missed the point.

The Garden dude asks you to set your own time limit. One of the things being tested is your own assessment of your abilities.

It is important to know yourself.

It's still incredibly stupid as you don't know how long it will take on a first playthrough. You're being tested on something you have no way of knowing

to get the best score you can beat him and just leave it on the naming screen until 0.00-0.03 seconds and then continue

It would've honestly probably been better if you couldn't level up at all. You're just set at a base level that stays the same forever. Then you'd have to focus totally on the Junction System. But that would've likely broken too far away from the franchise formula.

I think you can wait as long as you want at the naming screen. As by that point the game can no longer give you a game over.

There's a trick where if you leave the exp screen up time will still count down.
