Shell profits for the same quarter last year was around 3 billion. 3 times more this year. They absolutely can fix this shit, they dont want to stop making money. Republicans voted down bids against gas price gouging.

This is what comes from organizing our world in such a way that the resources everyone needs to live are gatekept by a small minority of people.

It's wild how oil companies are able to set their own prices for oil and aren't bound by the global oil market suddenly.

Gas was $2 or less when trump was in office. Now it's over $4 since Biden came in. That makes me feel really bad for people who have cars and are putting out all their money for gas. I don't drive so it's not bothering me but I know it's really terrible on people who drive

Not sure why you even mention this, it was as if a pandemic caused people to not drive much during the end of dump's presidency to have the price drop so low.

There was never a shortage, there was never a lapse, and the prices will never go back down. Hopefully this is the push we need to get away from oil

Oil prices are based on GLOBAL supply and demand. Taking the #3 producer of oil out of the market will reduce supply dramatically.

How is Shell single handedly causing oil prices to spike when they produce a fraction of the oil that Russia and all the OPEC countries do? Also they have a very small refining operation in the US so how is that going to cause gas prices to spike here?

If they're greedy now, why weren't they this greedy a few years back? Your logic makes no sense.

what's true: us oil producers could have continued to open new shale wells, in the sense that physically they could do a thing that was not in their interest

what's false: that they did not do so out of 'greed' any more so than normal operations are fundamentally driven by 'greed.' they ran a -300b real cash flow over the last decade to develop shale capabilities, and stopped ramping up shale production back in like 2019 (while continuing discovery) with the expectation that they'd open those wells once prices rose to levels like this

expect we'll see rapid increases in domestic production now that they can sell it at a rate that is competitive with expansion of wells elsewhere (why open a shale well if it's barely paying for itself, but would be highly profitable later?)

looking at profits on a 1-year window is pretty deeply dishonest

looking at profits in pure dollar values and not dollar values in context of total operations is even more dishonest ($ 9b profit is pretty shit when your revenue is $260b )

Why weren't they being greedy back when they had a 20+ billion loss in 2020? How are they alone doing this "on purpose"? Again they have a very small % of the global market of oil and gas, and those prices are set GLOBALLY. Why don't you read up about the industry instead of regurgitating DDIQ memes.
