Well, the topic purged again but thankfully I saved the comment I made from the last topic, so here it is agiaEpisode Six: The Survivors

Yep, it was Daleks. And they sound and act pretty similar although they did take prisoners and didn't say exterminate even once which was weird. The Doctor admitted he faked the Tardis problem, they all realize they are dying from radiation poison and then get taken prisoner by Daleks. Also Ian gets nonlethally zapped.. weirddd. The Doctor negotiates and Susan gets to leave to look for medicine probably left by the Dalek's enemies the Thall or Thrall or w/e. Looking forward to the surprise that the Daleks dropped the Neutron Bomb that killed everything except the Thall who are supposedly mutated... and I think I saw one move in the forest.

Bonus points for all the really close up camera shots when Susan was running through the forest to disguise they have three sets that are probably all ten feet across.n.

Episode Seven: The Escape

This is the first episode that actually kind of felt like Doctor Who. It was nice seeing the Doctor take charge instead of whining, and even though their plan to take down a Dalek was kind of ridiculous, seeing Ian try to pilot it was quite hilarious and it was nice seeing them finally work together. The Thalls had apparently been trying to help them with the medicine, and they seem like nice guys which is a shame since Susan ended up giving them a message that the Daleks wanted to negotiate peace and trade which is a lie, so hopefully they can save them from the mess that's about to happen when they show up expecting food and get extermination. They actually said Exterminate once, that felt pretty good man. Best episode yet.

Wonder when I'll get to Marco Polo. I bought an audio book version on audible and am curious what it will be like

Marco Polo was the first story to use yellow face and racist accents for Asian characters.

There's one more story between the one you're on now and Marco Polo.

Marco Polo is probably the best Hartnell story IMO, but I may be skewed by only hearing the audio side of it. If the episodes are ever recovered then the 60s era BBC sets and production may detract from how epic it feels.

The same thing happened with Web of Fear. Hearing just the audio and seeing the telesnaps made it seem brilliant (while Enemy of the World came across quite poorly) but when they were both found and released back in 2013, Enemy was by far the better serial to watch.

I've not seen the animation for Web - my DVD is one of the earlier ones where the remaining missing episode is reconstructed with the soundtrack and the telesnaps. A lot of people found that jarring and unappealing when it came out (especially because by then we'd had actual animated episodes released), but I didn't mind it: other stories with lost episodes had been recreated in that manner - or by just having one of the cast look into the camera and give a summary of what was missing - in the VHS era before there was the budget to animate missing episodes, so honestly I actually found it weirdly nostalgic.
