After his experiences in Russia in 1986 (the year in which Season 4 is set), Jim Hopper ends up joining the military as a Green Beret. During this time, he becomes acquainted with Major Dutch Schaefer (Arnold Schwarzenegger). The following year, while on a mission in Central America, he becomes one of the first victims of the Predator. Later, Arnold Schwarzenegger and his crew come upon the skinned bodies of Hopper and others. The character in Predator is officially named Jim Hopper, even though the dog tag says C. E. Hopper, presumably he changed his name after the Stranger Things events to keep himself safe.

But the timing, my guy. ST4 is literally set in early 1986. Predator is set in 1987. It works.

Well, we don't even know if he'll survive through Stranger Things to begin with.
