Platypuses are so bizarre that the initial reaction to a specimen sent for research was that it must have been a hoax.

I bet if we started really looking for fossils beneath the ocean floor harder than we do, we'd find really mind boggling creatures like Giant Octopi and Megalodon. Imagine an entire group of really alien creatures just waiting to be unearthed beneath the ocean floor, or even pockets of living creatures we've never seen before, hidden away somewhere in the crust or mantle, like Jules Verne imagined.

So much remains unexplored, theres no telling what's down there. This is what keeps me super interested in this stuff, there is still a lot of unknowns, things to learn and discover.

Oregon and Oregon State are the Ducks and Beavers respectively. A fan of both teams is known as a platypus. >_>

A bill like a duck & lays eggs like a bird.
Has fur and produces milk like a mammal.
Is poisonous like a reptile.
Finds prey by electrolocation like a shark.
It's closest relative, the echidna, has a pouch like a marsupial.

In light of all this foolishness, I am forced to conclude that the platypus is the result of an "all species orgy" hosted by God himself after he finished creating everything.
