By the late 60s you had garage rock, surf rock, rockabilly, merseybeat, psychedelic rock, folk rock, hard rock, heavy metal, progressive rock, etc.. Rock music has taken a lot of forms created by white people and to dismiss that is quite frankly an equally bad thing to do as much as dismissing black creators of genres.
