On a bit of a DnD kick at the moment. I'm DMing a game but I also made an Air Genasi Monk on DnD Beyond for fun, when/if I get to be a player again.

What kind of characters do you run?

Lizard person that cuts off people's penises to make a necklace

I don't play DnD but I have played Play by Post RPs on some forums. Some characters and ideas:
-A necromancer/animancer that manipulates souls to do stuff like put them into inanimate objects such as suits of armors to make them move.
-A character specializing in creating barriers and forcefields of different kinds.
-A character with just one move, a massive kamehameha like beam, which needs recharging and stuff. Basically a glass canon.

I can't find a D&D game to play in.

Noble blue Tiefling Wizard named Oberon.
i flavored him that his spellbook is tattooed on his skin, with the justification that it's standard that people in his town cover themselves in tattooes to display their accomplishments.

he started off a bit socially awkward, as he was isolated for much of his upbringing, due to illness and helicopter parents issues
what he doesn't know yet is that the reason he was sick for so long is that he was slowly being poisoned by his own mother, so i'm looking forward to when he makes that connection

I struggled with this for ages. Had to get my partner really into it, who then got our friends to try it out too haha. I also played an online game for a while but it's just not the same, at least for me.

I also have a Bard character. He's a Saytr (which I think isn't official but it's on DnD Beyond and is a lot of fun) named Party Time. Not much for combat but he has high history, arcana, persuasion, that kind of thing. Good for exploration/lore/knowing about enemies/charming townsfolk etc.

A Dragonborn cleric who was a village doctor for some time until a mysterious illness wiped the community. Only through a stronger, more experienced magic caster the village was able to be saved. Disgraced, I parted ways, boarded a ship to seek out ways to help heal.

As he has grown, its become apparent to him life and death happen no matter what we do, but necromancy may help. (Hes losing his mind a bit, a notion the rest of his traveling companions have no inkling of)

Playing a half elf paladin/warlock right now. Went Oath of Vengeance and also rolled low intelligence so I'm playing like a dumb vigilante character who doesn't give a shit about consequences as long as he's accomplishing what he thinks is right.

We recently dealt with a king that was secretly replaced with a disguised Draconian by supporting a violent revolution of the entire kingdom. Half the city was destroyed and mah boi Eamon was just happy he got to carve a tooth out of the dragon he killed.

for my Best Bard Boy, i prepared a Word document of stupid jokes and insults for Vicious Mockery, and a whole bunch of songs for Inspiration and some spells. that's the most fun i had with him

I am playing a Soul Knife that used to be part of a infiltration team, but got out Telepathy'd during a missiom by another psionic mimicking him which lead to his team's death. Then he got depressed and just uses psionic powers to scam people for a quick gold. Now he has been kidnapped and brought to the underdark, where he is still just trying to juzt use people so he can just go back to his shit life on the surface. He lazily hides his psionic powers by just saying whatever he is doing is a "spell" and just comes up with some half assed incantation. Half the party is already pretty damn sure he isn't a spellcaster, and the other half just thinks he is a really shit bard.

I've never played, but I've got a couple of character ideas.

One is a neutral evil changeling bard/warlock. Not sure what the warlock subclass would be (if I'd even got that far), but he'd be a bard of creation. He's part of a large cult of changelings that masquerade as a normal town. They work for an entity called the Subaudible that claims responsibility for creating the universe with the Song of Creation. Each generation adventures out into the world for a period of time to do its bidding with the results of their expedition deciding their place in the cult.

The main goal of the cult is to find the notes of the Song of Creation to correct the disharmony the Subaudible claims has caused all of the evil in the universe. The notes are weird, impossible noises like a hummingbird's heartbeat, the song of a false hydra, the repentance of an evil man, a cat's footsteps, etc. The notes the cult have already discovered would be what he'd use for bardic inspiration. He'd also cast spells with an ancient, eldritch language. To use both his inspiration and for vocal components, he'd use his shapeshifting to modify his physical form to make noises a normal person otherwise couldn't.

My inspiration for him is the main character of that movie Thank You For Smoking. He's primarily a conman who's aware the Subaudible is almost certainly planning to just destroy reality, but he's pretty sure he'll be long dead before it gets close to succeeding. Sort of like a lobbyist for the oil industry.

The other one is an oathbreaker paladin. This one's based around the Critical Role setting. The idea is that he was once an oath of the watchers paladin who was alive during the Calamity, a massive war between the gods that happened on the material plane. He and his husband were long-retired adventurers who took charge of defending their town from repeated assault from devils. At one point, he gets sick and is going to die of natural causes. He accepts his oncoming demise, but his husband does not. He makes a deal with the devils attacking the town. He joins their army and helps them get to what they want in the town in exchange for keeping my character alive and safe.

So the town gets slaughtered by fiends, but my 60-year-old character gets a devilish blessing that forcibly changes his oath, aged down to his twenties, and trapped in a pocket dimension version of their house. He's imprisoned there for centuries with his husband growing more and more evil and abusive as he rises in the ranks of the devil's army. And then one day, the pocket dimension suddenly collapses and dumps him out in the empty field that used to be his village with no idea what happened or where his evil husband is.

My most played character (2 sessions -_-) is a young half-elf druid raised by a mentor in the woods his nearly his entire life. After she dies he leaves their secluded grove to live his life. His first adventure involved helping a halfling royal with a mimic problem.

Haven't played D&D in awhile, so no current characters but I'm a big fan of spellcasters and anything that's high mobility and deals a lot of damage. Last character I had a blast with was a pixie (homebrew race iirc) divine soul sorcerer, and the mobility feat. The pixie got free flight, so that was fun. Had a blast tanking hits with shield, using booming blade, flying out of range and watching enemies explode themselves when they chased after me.

The DM nixed the pixie in the next game, lol.

I'm in two games right now, in one I'm a human bard who's currently dating a half-orc pirate queen, while evading some guards that want to bring me in for a simple misunderstanding. In the other game I'm a Mul Gladiator who recently escaped from a pit and is on the run.

I had a pathfinder swashbuckler who had a really cool vengeance character arc involving a brother who got drained by a succubus. The character itself wasn't very strong, but the roleplay and out of combat elements were *chefs kiss*

I'm a reanimated goblin cock and I kinda just squish when I walk around.

i have like 14 different characters but ive only played like 6 of them
havent been able to find a group to play with in years, i miss dnd

I've been DMing a campaign for the past year and a half.

This is one of my characters. She's a silver dragon on a plane where dragons were hunted to extinction. She travels alone and occasionally with the party.

Her adopted younger brother is a main party member along with her twin sister.

I run her as an adult silver dragon for combat and adapt the Dragon's attacks and abilities to her elf form. i.e. Claw attacks she uses ice daggers, tail attacks are an ice whip, breath attack is normal.

Halfway through she was assumed to be killed by the main villain. She was found a while later by the party being controlled by a beholder acting as a pirate lord. They break the control so now she can use the swashbuckler skillset too.

I've only played in one campaign that was ended by the DM throwing a hissy fit over the other players bailing. My character was an elf. Don't remember her class, but her backstory was that she had set out to find her brother, a half-elf, who had stormed off in a rage after learning the truth about his parentage. I had all kinds of ideas for her that I'd talked about with the DM, like how I wanted her to meet up with her mother's old adventuring party (or, more realistically, the one surviving and extremely elderly member of it) and an eventual reunion with her brother. I was super excited about that, but only myself and another player took it seriously. The other three bailed regularly or made a mockery of the whole thing. On a night where two of them bailed, the rest of us played and the other serious player's character nearly died in a way that was clearly driven by spite from the DM. The next time the others bailed, I said I wasn't going to play with a party of just two characters if the DM wasn't going to adjust the difficulty. Cue him throwing a fit and never playing with us again.

So, my sweet little elf only exists as a sheet of paper and a five page Word document now.

I played one like this once. He lasted three sessions and then got death-rayed by a Beholder while making an attempt to save another party member who was down.
