Dunban's best friends were all traitors. He had no friends. One was a coward and clearly evil from the first 5 minutes, and it was obvious he was the evil robot later on. And then the other who you would think is the good friend spends the entire time in the game grinning evilly and whispering to himself and you think it's a red herring but no, it's just straight up betrayal plotting.

And Dunban is supposed to be the cool character, like a combination of Basch and Balthier from FF 12. Was this supposed to be a deconstruction of that trope, because it's kinda super sad when you think about it for even a bit
