It's like a weird combination. Sure violence might be more acceptable than nudity and sex scenes, but at the same time there's sexploitation everywhere... heck just look at sports. In basketball or america's version of football, the game is literally paused... so that a group of scantily clad women prance around the field. Compare that to soccer, the sport of the rest of the world where the pitch is basically just empty during the half time and then the sport resumes with no cheerleaders whatsoever.

Meanwhile, many places in Europe have billboards and commercials plastered with naked women, and no one seems to bat an eyelash, but if a woman's breast pops out during the halftime show in America, there'll be hell to pay

America is extremely weird.

I live with two roommates who are nudists and I seriously don't understand what the fuck the big deal is, particularly in a domestic setting like that.

No it isn't. There's always an inherent appeal to the forbidden.

It was a colony founded by people who got kicked out of Britain for being too uptight, but then had to wage a bloody war to establish its freedom. That'll mess with anyone.

Sex sells and America is hyper capitalist. But at the same time there's this puritan struggle to make it a Christian theocracy. So it's bipolar in a sense. It's like how they teach abstinence only in school when everyone in the class is already having sex with each other.
