Wilt never claimed to bench 600. He claimed to bench 500 but no one ever saw him do it. He did have witnesses when he benched 465 though and he was pretty old when he did it so 500 seems reasonable.

Longer arms make benching harder, though, and he had like a 7'8 wingspan.

He was strong af, but the 600lb bench claim is dubious at best.

It seems like Wilt exaggerated about everything even though he was great at pretty much everything. Modern day, with modern techniques, nutrition, supplements, trainers, and a bench shirt I could see him doing it. But 1967 was the first time 600 pounds was eclipsed, and he was 31 then.

I doubt even the claims of 500. Mechanically that is so hard. 400-450 sounds more reasonable to me.

Probably this. Wilt was a great athlete, but he's also known for his ego.

Wilt definitely did a lot of crazy shit that isn't an exaggeration though. He's the only player to shoot 100 points in a single game. Peak Steph Curry was only hitting 60.
