The only part that seemed fun was the giant enemy at the end which is uhhhh... Not great.

I've generally not been down with all the negativity being thrown at this game (though I don't think it looks especially good) but man, having the player fuck up constantly is really not how you give a good first impression of the combat. I almost closed the video after the fourth homing attack on a clearly invincible enemy.

They need to delay this game by another 2 years

So wait they pointed out the gameplay trailers are from an older build of the game because there's a new model for Sonic they've been using for stills.

What the hell are they doing with this marketing Sega pls just wait before showing mediocre stuff to people.

I feel like the combat would be fun if the enemies took like half as many hits and they would knock it off with the depressing piano

the DBZ wombo combo stuff looks fun, just not having to bust it out like three times for what appears to be random mooks hangin' out

They're showing this off like it's a vertical slice prototype but it's wayyy earlier than that. If it has at over12-18 months of dev left then it's prob ok, but I don't think a company has shown such early gameplay before. Except maybe FFXV showing random animations in a white room and saying the game is 68% complete.

Yeah, weve known the release date for Origins since April.

Well they confirmed in the IGN First Impressions that we saw an early build of the game with these gameplay bits.

But oh my god why didn't they open with this First Impressions, because it's far more kind than the gameplay trailers they showed us.

I don't mind semi-openworld if that is what it is, or big open world I can go really fast through, but if it is a slog the game is going to suck

It doesn't look terrible, just uninspired. It looks like super early alpha footage, not something due out in a few months...

Well, it's not due out in a few months, for one thing.

It's more like a handful of months!

That's still not enough time to remake a game so hopefully there will be more interesting areas later in the game.

Gameplay loop according to IGN

"The flow of the game is basically: Explore open world > solve puzzles to open up map > find collectibles to improve stats > fight world bosses to earn portal gears > use portal gears to unlock linear Sonic levels > complete linear Sonic levels to unlock chaos emeralds

So the open zones are more like large hubs to more traditional sonic stages

I wonder if that means theres only seven of them or you have to do lots of them for each emerald.

I really am just convinced Sega is the worst at marketing now.

Everyone who has had a chance to play Sonic Frontiers hands on with the recent build is saying it's great. Not trying to get up hopes, but it does feel more promising with actual people complimenting the game instead of the disaster IGN stuff.

Yeah, that's a very positive development. I'll still be shocked if combat doesn't get repetitive fast though.

Nevertheless, the real question: where the hell is Sonic Mania 2

Well, the impressions generally seem to suggest the combat needs improvement.

I couldn't care less about Adventure 3. I just want more great 2D Sonic like Mania. Hell, I'll also take a Sonic Generations 2. That game ruled.

Yuuuup. Basically, Sega low balled them on a contract concerning them making additional cash based on sales because neither party expected it to sell as well as it did.

And then it did a tremendous amount of sales, and then the DLC did a ton of sales. And Sega refused to give them any further money in exchange for working on future projects. So I don't blame them--there's more money to be had if they make a game from their own studio at this point. It's really sad though because Sega could have fixed everything by giving them a bonus for such a successful project, especially since it was the only positivity Sonic had at the time pre-movie and Sonic Forces being a pile of shit.
