I mean, look at the SEC(Not the college football one.) Sure, you could listen to the opining of retail traders and create new laws to prevent naked shorting, but there are already laws explicitly on the books to prevent these occurrences and they either being circumvented or enforced with a fine less than the profit accrued.

Likewise with this topic on the police and their lack of oversight. You don't want new oversight, you want proper enforcement of existing rules and oversight. What possible hope does a new regulation provide when those that already exist aren't sufficiently enforced or provide enough of a punitive deterrent to stop people in the first place.

1. Tie fines of white collar crime to the CPI and ensure they increase at the same rate at a minimum. Retroactively increase these fines based on the date they were instituted using this formula.

2. Ensure all existing legislation tied to current pending legislation has proper documentable enforcement of its rules and regulations prior to putting the new law up to a vote.

I think those are reasonable things to hope for, but it feels hopeless truth be told.
