What's this filler arc with the pirates

It was great up until you got everyone back to the source, but now I found myself bored out of my mind

I thought the ShB patch content wasn't that great once you return because I hate Zenos with a passion. The beginning on EW is also really, really slow and boring so hold onto your butt. I personally didn't think EW got any interesting till around the level 85 story content.

Pirates are cool. That's all you need to know.

Him and Fandaniel actively detract from every single scene they're in. They're so boring after Emet-Selch and Elidibus. I get you can't have the same type of villain again but holy shit.

I love him. Literally one of the best characters.

Every mid-expansion patch scene with Zenos is exactly the same and it gets really tiresome with him sitting around doing nothing

Everything about Zenos' return is made up for in Endwalker. I won't say anything else to avoid spoilers, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Endwalker in general was kind of disappointing though. After ShB and the Elidibus arc, my expectations were through the roof, but EW feels like it has a completely different writer (even though it's the same writer that did ShB). It has some standout moments but there wasn't really much about it that wowed me.

People saying Zenos needs a motivation similar to the Ascians either don't understand what his character represents, or just can't vibe with a straightforward villain.

MAJOR SPOILERS for ENDWALKER

I think he was perfect for Endwalker. His whole being of existence and trying to chase a combat high, putting Hermes to shame with his definition of existence, then finally turning around and admitting his own selfishness would be his undoing.

If you think about it, his symbolism wasn't as straightforward as it seems. He's someone who was also born with immense power and went down another route, for his own selfish reasons. A total opposite of the Warrior of Light in almost every way. And not to mention, every scene with him in it was just plain fun for me. Loved it.

Also Endwalker was amazing. I think it hits differently for a lot of people because of the themes it touches upon.

People who have been through a lot of hardships and personally don't know what they are put on this Earth for could maybe relate to a lot of the questions it poses. Or maybe not, I can't speak for everyone. I can just say it was one of the best experiences a videogame has ever given me.

I was fine with Zenos in StB. The issue I have with him was bringing him back to retread the same plot point and then have every single scene with him be exactly the same. Especially in the patch content. Every scene he's sitting around talking about how big his boner is to fight WoL and then Fandaniel is there laughing like a giant idiot.

My issue with EW is it takes too long to get started, and the moon and Zodiark were both big letdowns. The moon was constantly advertised pre-release and it ends up being...not very important to the overall story. I also felt like the Final Days could have been done better. You only really see the effects of it in one single area. Also, Garlemald might as well be filler.

Yeah, Zenos gets boring pretty fast after bringing him back. I liked him in Stormblood, but he really should've stayed in Stormblood. There were enough plot threads that needed to get wrapped up in EW without him being thrown into the mix, and he really felt like an afterthought through most of it.

I liked EW well enough, though. It starts slow, but the "pacing" of the expansion is supposed to represent the pacing of the whole game at large -- so the starting stuff is supposed to reflect ARR in that capacity, then sliding into HW, SB, and ShB levels of pacing and themes as you progress. I picked up on that and thought it was kinda neat. Doesn't really excuse the starting stuff from kinda dragging a bit, but once you get to the 2nd and 3rd zones, things start picking up.

Unfortunately, I found the back half of EW the worst part. Not bad by any measure, but pretty lackluster after how great ShB's back half was.
