https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/may/28/elon-musk-welcomes-global-recession-its-been-raining-money-on-fools-for-too-long

This is actually a good thing, Musk said in response to a question from a Twitter user. It has been raining money on fools for too long. Some bankruptcies need to happen.

Also, he continued, all the Covid stay-at-home stuff has tricked people into thinking that you dont actually need to work hard. Rude awakening inbound!

A man who spends most of his time shitposting and receiving government bailouts said this.

This is the anti-anti-work crowd's idol. Go figure.

I really want to sell my Tesla stock now. He says so many stupid shit.

Yes there are a lot of people that are taking advantage of government money like unemployment, but people working from home generally do work hard...

Working from home is one of the best things have have happened in a post pandemic world. Especially for parents. They get to spend time with their kids

Actually the people who got the most of the money were rich people who scammed the government. Did you guys not know about this?

@Vicious_Dios
@Arcanine2009

There was an actual scam

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/biggest-fraud-generation-looting-covid-relief-program-known-ppp-n1279664

This wasn't the poor people getting a small check that paid their rent.

This was wealthy people in the know stealing millions.

But you say Elon is right? (that to dios)

Well tbh perhaps I said that wrong.

They didn't scam the government as many of them had ties to the government.

They scammed the taxpayers like you and me and the people Elon are calling lazy.

I just know how to read past the opinions that the author of an article is inserting while undoubtedly leaving out context. Or at the bare minimum at least exercising a healthy amount of skepticism towards it. Especially from sources like the guardian which are borderline tabloid rags.

the poor aren't abusing the system and even if they did, it isn't much money

fyi the conservatives wanted a rule that allowed MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars to go to FRAUDULENT companies they made up that claimed covid benefits

(fyi most the money lost during the Trump admin)

TOTAL WAS BILLIONS OF TAX MONEY
B
BILLIONS

There is a reason they whine about foodstamps and stuff like that so much

it is to distract you from when THEY put their hand into YOUR pocket

They came into their riches by participating in what experts say isthe theft of as much as $80 billion or about 10 percent of the $800 billion handed out in a Covid relief plan known as the Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP. Thats on top of the $90 billion to $400 billion believed to have been stolen from the $900 billion Covid unemployment relief program at least half taken by international fraudsters as NBC News reported last year. And another $80 billion potentially pilfered from a separate Covid disaster relief program.

Experts say millions of borrowers inflated their numbers of employees or created companies out of whole cloth. For much of 2020, lenders did little to verify the applications, prosecutors and experts say, in part because Congress required the Small Business Administration, or SBA, which ran the program, to issue explicit guidance that in the interest of getting the money out fast, lenders will be held harmless for borrowers failure to comply with program criteria. The Government Accountability Office warned of fraud risk, but the program continued under that rule.

The government spent approximately $800 billion and provided 21 million loans to individuals, said Haywood Talcove, the CEO for government at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, which works with the government to verify identities.

No one is sure exactly how much was stolen. An academic paper released last year estimated at least $76 billion in potential fraud, and the authors said that was conservative.

When Covid relief was proposed, he said, he spoke to Larry Kudlow, then a top economic adviser to President Donald Trump.
And I explained to him that this was going to be the biggest fraud in the history of our country. And then I was told that you can have speed or you can have security. And that they'd rather just get the money out.
Talcove said he told Kudlow that banks have the ability to rapidly identify their customers.
Kudlow didnt respond to requests for comment.

Most of the losses are considered unrecoverable, but there is still a chance to stanch the bleeding, because federal officials say $600 billion is still waiting to go out the door. The Biden administration imposed new verification rules last year that administration officials say appear to have made a difference in curbing fraud. But they acknowledge that programs in 2020 sacrificed security for speed, needlessly.

tl;dr

Fraud was a 2020 thing under the Trump admin.

aka it was on purpose to help their rich friends pretty much

but hey

let us whine about poor people on food stamps those of whom needed stimulus checks to pay their rent or groceries etc!!!

Tesla still isn't in talks with Elon about a new compensation plan. It expired last year if you recall, when he was forced to sell to execute it and thus pay taxes for once.

Probably wishful thinking but maybe all the talent at Tesla is realizing Elon is now a useless moocher on his best days and a painful parasite on the company on his worst.

Eh, I'll start giving a shit about the people at the bottom abusing the system (of which, prior to C19 there weren't many) when those at the top are properly reprimanded for consistently / continously exploiting the system for their own gain.

Given that both the UK & the USA function under corporatism, I don't see that happening.
