Im feeling totally depressed. Maybe Im just anxious to start in August, but with literally everything that happened in Texas this week Im devastated. Im also going to totally miss the kids and school I did my student teaching with as well. IDK whats wrong with me.

You're definitely upset you're leaving one school. It's natural. I still keep in contact with a few of the kids through the teachers even though I was just the IT Manager there. Mostly in terms of how they're getting on, etc.

You should reach out to the school you did teaching in and see if they have after school activities or anything like really. Especially during summer. A lot of schools do things for kids. The school I was at regularly ran activites every 2 weeks throughout the summer.

Even volunteer working with kids. You most likely just miss the kids tbqh

I did sign up to teach summer school at the school Ill be teaching at. So Im looking forward to that.

ill be teaching 4th grade and for summer school Ill be doing resource room. Which I liked doing when I was a sub.

congratulations on your success, but yea, I could see why things have you feeling down.

from what I've seen, elementary school teachers can become really attached to each of their classes.

as for the tragedy in Texas, I can only imagine how much of a helpless feeling teachers must feel, as many are doing what they can to give kids the best education and experience of their childhood, and something terrible like that comes along and there's no promise it won't happen again.

Always put your relationships with students before curriculum.

Never work past your contracted hours.

Realize your admins will never understand your classroom like you do.

Your first year will be absolutely awful because no amount of education classes or student teaching can prepare you for the real thing.

Do those things, and you'll survive.

You're probably just feeling that way because of the change in environment. You'll get used to your new norm
