And these spots go months in advance!? How many people have had their vacations ruined bc they didn't know about this and just showed up one day to buy their tickets like at a normal theme park?

It's been this way since 1991.

That's when the Disney Vacation Club was created. You gotta be a member if you want to have anything resembling a good experience.

I mean things are so different nowadays. If you're planning to go anywhere you should look online first for tickets. And then you'll end up having to download their apps just for access to things. Its honestly pretty annoying.

For what Disney costs for a family of four who have to travel out of state, Mickey should be licking your balls when you arrive.

DVC has grown a lot since 1991.

Im going in June. Booked my parks back in January when I bought tickets.

Theyre also moving to more benefits for people that stay onsite. So if you are not in a Disney hotel you will be in lots of lines. All on-site get a half hour head start in the parks in the morning and if you stay at the more expensive hotels you get extra time at night.

The park booking thing started after they reopened after the COVID closure. They limited people in the parks. And it stuck because it makes it easier for them to manipulate crowds.

Buying park hopper tickets in a couple weeks, same as we did when we went in 2017 and 2018. Is there more that needs to be done now?

I mean if youre booking a trip to Disney world you know exactly what days youre gonna be at the park anyway.

You reserve which park you would like to start out in. After that you can park hop your another park (I believe without making a reservation to the second park).

When I was there I believe you had to wait until either 1 or 2 before you could park hop.

My sister and her husband both work at Disney World so they get me and my family in all the time for free. Honestly, I don't know if I'd ever go without them cuz it's just too damn expensive and you don't even have enough time in a day to enjoy everything in the parks.

But yea, they tell me that people show up to the parks ALL the time just buying tickets without making reservations. It's totally on them though because they are told online as they are buying tickets several times that they need to reserve a day. They just don't read I guess.

Yeah, but what about people who just show up at the gate? I had no idea you had to buy and reserve online. Its Disney World. I figured youd just go to the gate and get your ticket, like any other theme park. Im not reserving days to go to Carowinds or Six Flags. You show up, buy a ticket, and go in.

You show up without a park reservation then you turned away. Simple as that. They wont sell you a ticket if there are no park reservations left anyway.

Yes. You need to figure out which parks you are starting off in each day and reserve a spot to go into that park.
If you are planning on doing any sit down meals you need to book those 2 months in advance. Not all places are running at full capacity because of staffing issues so food can be an issue on busy days.

Also there no longer is free fastpass. There are 2 add ons - Genie plus and lighting lane. Different rides are included in each. Lighting lane is for the most popular rides. Genie plus is the rest of the rides that used to be fastpass rides. As of June 8 you wont be able to add Genie plus to your ticket in advance anymore ( you will have to add at midnight the night before you are going, the assumption is that they may limit the number sold).

Get on some websites that explain this. Things have changed and you wont have as good an experience if you dont familiarize yourself. disboards.com is where I go but there are other websites.

I was there in October and they were 100% still selling tickets at the gate.

You can still buy tickets at the gate and get your reservation at the gate for that day too. Theres a theoretical possibility that they could run out of reservations for that day, but I dont know if thats actually happened. Maybe if you show up late afternoon on a Holiday weekend.

Why would you wait to buy your tickets at the gate though? Even without the reservation thing, most parks give you a discount if you buy your tickets online. It's almost always more expensive at the gate.

And I'm guessing it's not a permanent thing. Just that tickets are selling out because people are still in "covid is over" mode.

But you may not get the park you want to go to. Just checked the week I am going in June. no Magic Kingdom on any of those days and no Hollywood studios some. Theyd sell you a ticket and send you on to Epcot or Animal Kingdom.

Im willing to bet that they save some reservations for walk-ins. So online it may say sold out, but if you turn up early that morning you can probably get in.

This is the problem. You can buy a ticket, which is "good" for every park, but then after purchasing you need to actually reserve your spot at the park you plan at going to. So you wanted to go to MK and buy a ticket, only to see MK is booked for the week you're in Florida. I get why they're doing it but lots of parks are literally booked into late June already so unless you're buying these things well in advance, you could get screwed.

Im sure they save some for the people paying through the nose for Club level at their hotels, but they wont go out of their way for the peons.

I''m an adult in my 30s who loves amusement parks and grew up on Disney, never been to Disney World, and it just feels like at this point in my life, as much as I'd love to go someday, it feels like too much of a hassle to even try.
