Arent all the major cities on the planet just nuked? The movie acts like its this heroic, feel good ending but theres literally a billion deaths and the wolds countries are in shambles. --- Like 90% of CE topics are the same way lol. well there is a sequel, even if it sucked. Its set like 30 years later, and humans reverse engineer some of the tech. It provides a boost to our civilization and when the aliens come back, the 2nd war is closer to equal ground I don't remember the movie really talking much about the social impact in the past 30 years though. I could see it being sort of like the progression of Mad Max movies, where at first there's still little pockets of what feel like normal civilization but you can tell things are getting bad, then quickly everyone rallies around resources like water and ammunition and fuel, until eventually whole religions form around them. --- "History Is Much Like An Endless Waltz. oh I forgot about the sequel. What happens in the sequel? The taking the fight to them part was teased at the end of the sequel though, as a jumping off point for another movie.
