i make 72k a year and we can still barely make ends meet. at the end of the month after all the bills and groceries and shit we have like 100 dollars to put away.

houses here are going for 500k, and to get a loan we need to save up 50k+ for the down payment and closing costs.

so itll take some 40 years to save for that. awesome i can buy a house when im 75 and i can be buried in it.

yes i budget. yes i cut everything. no im not buying avocado toast and shit or starbucks everyday. i shop at target and shit. ive cut out all streaming and subscriptions and everything and nothing, NOTHING works. every month i check my budgets fucking trash.

i hate this stupid fucking country

You make 6000 a Month.

Rent should be no more than 1500
Food should be 400 or so a month
Electricity 250
Internet 100
Phone 50

That's only 2300/6000.

TBH If I made that much I could save half of it.

Move to a rural area and commute to your job if that is geographically feasible.

When my wife and I got married her parents wanted us to move into their suburban neighborhood. Definitely didn't want that, but a 1,000 square foot homes with 2 beds 1 ba were going for nearly $300k

We instead bought a 1300 square foot house + full unfinished basement for $150k in a rural area.

Longer commute but I don't mind a little decompression on my way to and from work. With remote becoming more common lots of people can avoid commuting all together.

Sure there aren't the same amenities around, but I have no major complaints so far...actually...there is no good sandwich shop around but if I'm craving something I can get one near work

i mean fair enough about the rent.

What about this TC, instead of cutting stuff and putting in at the end of the month, set a small goal ($1000 a month) and try to live off 5k instead of 6k.

pay yourself first, yadda yadda

70k is like 4k a month after taxes my poor friend

but yes, he can probably save. bit more. you don't know how much he's paying in rent or how much debt he has.. id say theres about 2k after necessities are paid off so it really depends on his debt

my suggestion TC, max out your roth IRA. that is 500$ per month. in 5 yrs you will have 30k + gains (stock market is down a lot, that means you will make good money in 5 yrs as it recovers)

for ur first house you can take from your roth ira without penalty.
