Are disc drives not a thing anymore? Like CDs/DVDs/Blu-Rays/etc.? It doesn't seem like any cases I look at seem to have them. Do people not get physical copies of games anymore? Or listen to CDs, or watch DVDs/Blu-Rays on their PCs anymore?

basically no modern games even have the game on a disc anymore, just a code for the platform of the publisher's choice

Yeah, cases haven't come with internal disc drives for a while now. PC gaming is fully digital. You can get an external DVD drive for pretty cheap though, if you really need one.

More conveinent than having the drive in the PC itself?

Speaking as someone who was wondering the same thing 5 years ago when building a PC: Yes. Unless you are a very frequent user of physical media (like more than a couple times a week imo).

Every thing you put in your case is space you can't use for something else. You would usually be better off using that space for another SSD or something.
