I took lessons when I was young, like so many other folk but didn't stick with it. I really enjoy music and can appreciate the complex nature of it, even though I don't understand it. I've recently been reading Gdel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid and have way more background in mathematics than I do in music. However, the way they tie in together really fascinates me and is something I'd like to understand more.

To better develop my understanding of music, I thought learning an instrument would be a good start. I've recently pretty much stopped gaming and have more free time on my hands so I thought taking up a hobby I could invest some time in and learn from would be awesome.

So now...where do I start? My younger sister plays the guitar/keyboard and is a great vocalist. She recently upgraded to a newer keyboard, so I'll probably buy her old one off her, not sure how good of quality it is or how much that matters for a beginner? If you have any reccomendations for a beginners book on learning to read music and starting to learn to play that would be great! Also, I know I said Piano and then mentioned buying a keyboard...I think there is a difference of key layout (?) but yea like I said I'm a total beginner so w/e

Start with some of Bach's simpler stuff
There's probably some good YouTube videos on how to learn (don't watch the ones where they just tell you which key to press though)
Learn how to read sheet music
Analyze the structure of what you're trying to play since that might interest you
Get a proper keyboard (not one with less keys), preferably with weighted keys, there's some good ones out there
