I guess if it was me Id start by replacing that with some new plumbers putty

I could do that

I assume that leak only occurs when the water is running or the sink has water collected in it?

This. Youll have to get you big enough channellock to unscrew it.

Remove the old putty and place a generous amount of plumbers putty in its place.

Go to Home Depot/ Lowe's and try to find an employee in the plumbing area and show them the video. They should be able to help you out.

You can fix it one of two ways. DyingPancake and BuckVanHammer already gave the long and proper way of doing it. The short way and probably won't last as long is just get you a tube of clear silicone and go around the lip of the drain. Then run your finger around it to get rid of the excess.

I've never seen a strainer like that before. Looks like a pain in the ass to get rid of

They sell the whole, complete, attachment at most hardware stores.

It looks intimidating to replace, but it's VERY easy if you have the proper tools.

I had to do the exact same thing with my kitchen.
