Nice! Thanks very much.

I hadn't bought a Lego in years, but my brother told me about the Medieval Blacksmith set a couple weeks ago and I couldn't resist. It finally arrived a few days ago, and now having put it together I can say without hesitation that it's the best Lego set I've ever owned (I also bought the Police Station creator expert set, had my eye on that one since I saw it in a CE topic about a year ago).

Then these next few sets should go along with that. There is also a Castle set under the Creator brand that is out right now.

I saw the current castle when I was browsing for my last order, and it's a little too retro for my tastes; barring a small handful of the more modern pieces, that's something I could more-or-less build with my existing legos. Even the Forestman set in the OP is only really appealing because it's a freebie, to be perfectly honest.

That Blacksmith on the other hand *phew* the level of detail and ingenuity in that design is off the charts. It's actually quite humbling and a little depressing to have built a design that's so far above whatever I could conceive and build from scratch on my own, lol. Which is why the $350 castle you alluded to has definitely piqued my interest, I'm hoping that price tag puts means it'll be a more expert-geared set (but hopefully still minifiq-scaled, lego models that aren't meant to go with standard minifigs are pointless for my personal tastes).

All that has been leaked is that it is 4500 pieces with detailed room, 21 Minifigures, 2 horses and a cow.

Minifigures:
Queen, Majisto, 9 Lion Knights, 2 Falcon Knights, 2 Forestmen, Forestmen Child, Maid, Farmer, Baker, Boy, Skeleton

Is probably this:

Sounds awesome! Pic looks great too, only thing that could irritate me is if the minifigs are flesh-toned instead of yellow.

I had the Black Knight's Castle and Royal Knight's Castle, used to love LEGO stuff.

I was really into the Pirate sets too but that stuff is so expensive. Wonder if they are still insanely priced nowadays.

Just speaking for one person's experience, but it sure seems like Lego hasn't gone up all that much in price in the last 20 years. They've always been considerably pricey compared to other toys, but even as kid I always wrote that off as 'getting what you pay for' in terms of Lego's high quality control and their inherent versatility.

You still get what you pay for in terms of bricks, at least with the non-licensed stuff. The specialized sets in the $150 and up range are very dense brick-wise; at face value I thought the Blacksmith was overpriced even by Lego standards, but after having put it together myself it was worth every penny.

Cool. The minifig in that screenshot made me nervous. Would be so weird for what's clearly a retro-ish set to have flesh-toned minifigs, but I trust Lego to be aware of that.

I used to play with them all the time up into my late teens. We had a ton of space in my old house, and a section of the storage room was dedicated to all my lego models. Nowadays I don't have nearly that kind of space, so the vast majority got disassembled and is sitting in my closet. Up until recently the only set I kept sitting on my shelf was the original Ecto-1 that my brother bought for me several years ago, but I've got some room on a shelf I can make for the Blacksmith and Police Station + future additions to the City Neighborhood (not exactly sure what the official name is for those sets).

I have a dream one day to have enough living space for a dedicated Lego room, plus enough money to fund a fully-realized medieval village, smaller 'good guy' castle, and a massive Castlevania-esque Dracula's Castle. Mail-ordering select bricks wasn't as much of a thing when I was a kid, but now that it is that dream seems a lot more feasible.

To answer your second question, I always favored Castle and Space sets. Unfortunately the former got largely phased out in favor of Harry Potter and the latter in favor of Star Wars; didn't bother me so much at the time because I enjoyed SW, but eventually I missed getting new additions to the classic Lego themes.

yeah, i was looking at the lego site and i could not find any of the older themes. seems like it's just classic blocks (which i'm not even good enough to build shit w/o a guide) and then the themes. i remember playing with just non trademarked themes, which does not seem available anymore

You can probably download instructions for old sets and then order the bricks individually, or at least close-enough modern equivalents. Although I've never used the brick ordering feature myself (I've only ever bought a few cup-fulls of bricks directly from brick-and-mortar Lego stores in the past), and if I'm reading it correctly they've temporarily suspended that feature on the official website.

I bought a bookcase from IKEA beginning of last year and at first I just I just did random sets (like a couple Star Wars ones, Bag End, some from the second LEGO Movie, old skool space guys, etc.) and then I did themes. And then for the longest time I had set up just all my Hobbit sets (of which I own the ENTIRE collection ) but then this year I decided to rotate them out every few months.

So I did my Marvel sets and all my pirate sets. Now Ive got my SpongeBob and Toy Story sets all set up.

Not sure which I wanna do next

I just put them in sealed labeled baggies and throw em in a box when I disassemble them.

The one I regret taking apart was the Ghostbusters HQ. I was gonna put it together fairly recently and it took me forever just to sort the pieces. I legit dont even have a good way to set up a space to put piles of pieces by color for that one

The Ghostbusters Firehouse is the one set I regret not buying when I had the chance - saw it last time I was in a Lego store, but didn't have spare income at the time to justify buying it. I also wish I hadn't missed out on the Diner for the Neighborhood set, but I wasn't aware of that one until a couple weeks ago.

And I agree that these Expert-level sets will be a nightmare to ever put back together when / if I have to disassemble them. I always keep the instructions (hell I have some booklets that are close to 40 years old now), but sorting all the little pieces on a build that dense will be tough.

Simpsons house was another huge pain in the ass one to reassemble lol. Took forever to put back together. Never taking that one apart again. Or if I do, Im separating the pieces in a sensible way or something.

Man, I wish I had the means right now to start building my dream Castlevania castle. My last attempt was decent enough, took up most of the surface area 5' x 5' table. The most intricate parts were just repurposed Harry Potter castles, but I did manage to build a decent Clock Tower with a pair of working pendulum platforms tied in to the main clock power source (well, they worked most of the time at least). I also cobbled together a pretty convincing Alucard minifig, as well as a Count Orlok both pre and post-transformation (still have the Alucard, haven't been able to locate the Orlok ones though).

Welp, I'd say I've been bitten pretty strongly by the Lego bug, seeing as how I just dropped 80 damn dollars on a maybe a dozen out-of-print minifigs :/ I took a bit of a gamble ordering from this Toypro site, hopefully there's no issues with it.

Afraid not, I'm planning to spend maybe $1,300 total on my current spree from now until that big castle set you mentioned releases, and I think even that amount is obscene, lol.

Just ordered the Assembly Square last night so I could secure the two current freebie sets. After consideration, the only other neighborhood set I have my eye on atm is the Boutique Hotel, and I'll put off that purchase until the Forestman's freebie is available. The Birch Bookstore looks nice on the outside, but I'm really unimpressed with how it looks on the inside: lack of nice detail compared to the other sets, and the choice of green 'carpet' baseplates makes it look unappealingly like grass.

Mostly some female medieval-themed minifigs, to fill some gaps in what I already own for my eventual medieval town, since those types of female characters were practically nonexistent when I was a kid. They had a king that looked quite nice, but 20 dollars for a single minifig is over the line for me right now. I also broke down and ordered a higher-quality Dracula for my eventual Dracula's Castle; I couldn't find my original Dracula when I went looking for it last night, and then after some googled pics I remembered I was clearly using his body / outfit for my Alucard minifig.

Even though I just shelled out a relatively-ludicrous amount for them, I guess I don't value minifigs enough to put them in dedicated cases, lol. The Ecto-1 came with its own stand for the four Ghostbusters, but beyond that I don't care for displaying minifigs for their own sakes. Eventually I hope they'll be part of the medieval village / castles I'd like to build, but for now they'll either sit on the shelf next to the Blacksmith's House, or go in a box in the closet. At this point I'm still just crossing my fingers that they'll arrive without issue and in good quality.

And yeah, there's two current freebies for Lego.com orders, one for passing $80-90 (can't remember exactly), and another for passing $160 (you don't have to pick one or the other once you past the second mark, they'll give you both). The first one is something like a kiddie jungle gym playset, and the other more desirable one is a kid's playroom where he's built a rocket out of cardboard. Might give the latter to my brother as a gift, but it's got a nice little teddy bear piece that I'll probably keep for myself, lol.
