The empire was founded by an ascian and that ascian is the best damn character in the entire franchise.

It's easy to join a guild and has a large social community, but is also probably the least social MMO. It was actually developed with that in mind because many Japanese people are reserved, even for multiplayer games. You barely have to talk to anyone, even during dungeons and raids.

There's a ton of side content if the story isn't grabbing you. Oddly, the Golden Saucer content was what got me hooked before the game really got going. Triple Triad, the Cactpot Lotto, etc.

I started with Archer/Bard, which requires a lot of meters and cooldowns to pay attention to. But Ninja is my main, and it has a lot of cool boom booms, I guess

XIV Ivalice isn't canon to Tactics itself, Matsuno has already stated it's a separate world.

Everything happening in the story is the result of a mad scientist making a creature that is capable of apparently ending all life by manipulating a never before mentioned energy called Dynamis, and he asked it to find what people live for, so with a question as stupid and ambiguous as that, it inevitably runs into collapsed civilizations and becomes depressed and wants to kill everything, causing the destruction of the Ancients and them creating Zodiark, and Hydaelyn being created to stop Zodiark from whatever evil deeds he's doing idk,blah blah blah the world is split into 14 shards and the game's story starts.

if you buy a job skip you can pick anything ;)

DRK you can't get until you get to HW tho but DNC u can just grab once u hit 70 in limsa

Marauder which becomes Warrior, and you have to wait until you reach Heavensward before becoming a Dark knight

For tank, try Marauder/Warrior. There's also Gladiator/Paladin, but you may have to rely on more healing and buffing during duties compared to Warrior.

Dancer has the same equipment set as Bard, so try that. Don't forget you can switch on the fly, so you'll probably end up trying everything (and you also don't get a real feel for the classes/jobs until after level 30)

How long does it take to get to 80 anyway? My previous MMO experience is about 15 years of World of Warcraft so I am quite the expert.

You're basically following the main story quests, which up to level 80 is 4 full length RPGs, so like 160 hours

it's significantly faster when you start leveling a second class

Is the free trial not a thing in other countries?

Also, 160 hours seems kinda generous. Even if you just stick to the main story, each expansion is more like a 60 hour long RPG, so that's closer to 240 hours. Add in way more if you do side stuff and everything. I think I was at 800~ hours by the time I got to Lv80.

Tank might be fun. I like ont having to use my brain

Idk why but I tried a White Mage first and loved it. Simple to play and people really need you so its a w/w. I put about 400 hrs in last year and was barely dipping my toe into the second expansion. I was also leveling a Summoner. The game has some amazing music imo.

Just pick a floor tank and have fun.
Red Mage, Bard, Summoner, Dancer are all pretty fun if you dont want to tank.

I think I might use a controller actually on PC
