Nominate The Outer Worlds

Still appalled at myself for never playing Sacred Stones. Heard it's great if you play it on hard mode.

It's got some enjoyable supports and a good cast but the actual mainline plot becomes kind of a mess once Valter is out of the picture. The Lyon angle is just weird.

This is probably my least favorite FE story that I'd still call "good". It's hard to reconcile the two routes whether you take the events of both as canon to each other or not. The story feels very short with little room to breathe but also feels like it has a lot of filler.

It has good characters though. They definitely save what's otherwise a pretty lousy plot. Ephraim is a good protag and Eirika is, uh, a problematic fave, in the way almost all FE's female protags are. Joshua, L'Arachel, and Innes, among others, are all great supporting characters. And Lyon, Valter, Caellach, and Selena are all good villains.

The most standard fare Fire Emblem plot imaginable. There are however some really good moments in the story, especially the backstories that explore the relationship between our two terribly named protagonists and Lyon.

Lyon in Eirika's route is relatively boring while in Ephraim's route he's much more interesting. Overall I'd say evens out to a mediocre 6.5 for me.

Sacred Stones: 6

With the exceptions of Jugdral and Tellius Fire Emblem stories tend to be lackluster. Lyon stands out a little bit in this one.

Deus Ex: 7

A legitimately well-written game that combines interesting and relevant discussion on political and philosophical ideas AND funny sarcastic one-liners without undermining the tone of either. Its big weakness is that it's not very good at getting the player invested. While I felt attached to JC Denton, his lack of emotional reaction or strong motive meant that didn't translate into investment in the larger narrative, making it kind of boring for the majority of the game, until the big thematic connections start coming through near the end.
