For some reason, it was common wisdom as a kid that if you want a certain item to drop, you were more likely to get it if you didn't want it. So I would play Monster Hunter and pretend I didn't want what I was looking for when doing the carves. Or if I was looking for a rare Pokemon, I would pretend I didn't care.

I'm not sure why I was told this.
