We're seeing a huge surge in third parties, Greens and Independents. Preference votes are leaning more Labor. Liberals had 68 seats at one point, now they're down to 48.

Hopefully we get that shithead Scott Morrison out of government.

The Liberal Party in Australia is a slightly watered-down version of America's GOP only with more emphasis on incompetence. Meanwhile, the Labor Party is roughly the equivalent of the Democrats.

Funny thing I read about ScoMo was during the Australian bushfire incident 2 years ago.

He went to visit fire fighters on the ground and when one refused to shake his hand he literally force the guy's hand on his in a really awkward handshake.

Looks like a new Prime Minister. Anthony Albanese for the Labor party, probably ruling over a minority government with the Greens and independent candidates.

Remember when Ted Cruz left Texas during that huge freeze to go to Cancun?

Imagine if Joe Biden did the same thing while half of the country burned or froze.

Australia faced our worst bushfires in recorded history. The east coast of Australia was blanketed in smoke for about a month. We lost 3 billion animals, and a ton of our most diverse ecosystems were completely lost in these fires.

These fires were burning since September 2019, and they only got worse and worse each month leading into December. Our firefighters were underfunded, we didn't have the equipment or manpower to fight these fires, and it came out later that we had climate scientists and senior members from the rural fire services warning the Liberal government about these fires for years only for the LNP to continue to cut funding to them.

In late November, when these fires were getting to the point where you could view them from space, Scott Morrison left the country to go to Hawaii.

When the fires reached their peak and became the worst fires in recorded Australian history - a record it continued to gain all the way into February of 2020 - people were baffled that Scott Morrison hadn't made a statement. Then the rumours that he was on a holiday came through. His office said that he was in the country.

Then photos came out of him in Hawaii at a 5 star resort. At this point, we had photos of people escaping into the sea on dinghies while their entire towns burned.

Scott Morrison finally came back like a week afterwards, when smoke from these fires were swamping over every major city in New South Wales and Victoria. And he tried to turn the devastated communities into a photo op, where rightfully outraged townspeople asked what the fuck he was going to do to help them rebuild their towns that had turned completely to ash.

https://youtu.be/az4lkKjAsdI

That's one of the major fuckups of his prime ministership.

Other things done under his rule include:

* The government refusing to quarantine the first people in Australia who were Covid-positive

* Overseeing sports grants going to affluent areas of the country because they were in Liberal seats that they wanted to keep happy, rather than to smaller clubs that needed the grant money

* A defamation lawsuit for one of the most powerful men in the country being assisted by the Fixated Persons Unit, an anti-terror taskforce

* A state premier - second to the PM in terms of power for their respective states - being brought in on corruption charges for assisting a corrupt mayor doing dirty deals with property developers

I always thought Tony Abbott was going to be the worst Prime Minister of my lifetime. He's still close to being scum, but he has the guts to put on a uniform and battle bushfires as a volunteer firefighter - while Scomo was out of the country, Abbott was fighting the worst bushfires in Australia's recorded history. That's something positive for the Australian people. Scott Morrison is just scum. He and his ilk are concerned with corruption and lying to make themselves look better.

Shit, that's like way worse than I imagined. Thanks for taking the time to educate me; you definitely didn't have to. That was a pretty detailed summary. Appreciate it, and hopefully this sleazeball doesn't get reelected.

When Labor comes out on top instead of Liberal, Murdoch prefers to call it a tight race until the last second where they side with the Labor party. Then the next three years involve Murdoch media outlets putting the thumb screws to the Labor party, occasionally making shit up (like the hairdryer debacle where it was alleged that Kevin Rudd yelled at an air hostess over a hair dryer, or Utegate where it was alleged that Kevin Rudd sold a ute to a friend for a low price) and otherwise sensationalising news about the Labor party being shit while they give a pass to the Liberal party.

So idk how the postal votes are going, but it the figures from last night are holding up, the LNP were crippled by this election. Labor have almost 20 more seats than them in parliament, and if the Greens and at least half of the independents play ball with a minority Labor government, the Liberals will hopefully be unable to get a word in edgewise.

I know that the media is gonna be hardcore nuts to butts right out of the gate, making the Labor government out as lazy and ineffective and shitty. But I'm hoping that this will be the start of a new Australia.

We're seeing a tremendous amount of independent candidates winning seats this election, meaning fresh blood in the political system and a genuine representation of the Australian people through their nominated representatives. We're seeing a party that's hopefully going to form a federal corruption body, and a fully independent one at that - the Morrison government proposed an anti-corruption watchdog that could go after all other politicians except for the Morrison government.

We've elected a man who spent 26 years in politics, during which he held the office of Minister of Infrastructure and Transport. He delivered every project on time and under budget. Contrast that with the Sydney tram line, which is over-budget by $150 million and has faced numerous delays. We've had a Liberal premier get booted out of office after being dragged in front of a corruption hearing. We've had morons like Barnaby Joyce taking six-figure sums of money for projects, pissing off for months and failing to reduce a report. Under our last Labor government, Australia ranked as the 9th least corrupt nation in the world - under the LNP, we sank to #19.

I want this so badly to be the start of a new Australian government. One where politicians do their jobs for more than 12 days a year, where everything they say in parliament isn't choked by parliamentary privilege. I want to see Question Time airing on TV again. I want transparency, and I want legislation that's announced and explained for the common Australian instead of being snuck in the back door by a bunch of frauds.

I can't say whether this Labor government is the one that I'm looking for. But I think that Anthony Albanese is a good man with a solid track record, I think nerfing those LNP fucks is a step in the right direction, and I'm cautiously optimistic about the direction Labor will take this country.

The most interesting aspect of seeing this from across the ditch was the shift towards minor parties and independents. I think it's really cool in particular how many historic Liberal seats were lost to "teal independents" - who just seem like a bunch of well educated professional women ho have similar foundations but care a lot more about climate, energy and constitutional stuff.

Pretty amazing result. We have a lot to criticize with our Government but our electoral and preferential voting system is amazing. The Greens and Independents gained significant ground.

Despite the media campaigns the Australian public spoke loud in clear that we want something done about climate change. No more excuses. The Coalition completely collapsed this election by following playbooks similar to American Republicans. But we can vote for independents. We can even get the Greens to have more seats (absolutely nuts that they win those Brisbane seats).

Honestly about as good as it could possibly get. So close to Dutton getting out. That would have been a flawless victory. At least Frydenberg looks to be done.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-05-22/election-how-labor-anthony-albanese-won/101087904

Anyone who is interested in how this election turned out at all should check out that link. Really shows how this election played out in a simple way.

The big story is just how much of an impact third parties have had. A whole lot of seats who'd never have to vote for Labour didn't have to. They went for independents who prioritised what they cared about.

In Australia preferential voting means candidates outside the two majors have a chance. If your independent vote doesn't win your vote then gets carried over to your next preference so it's not wasted. So a whole lot of traditionally suburban conservative seats have went with an independent candidate after being unhappy with how the Coalition has been speaking about climate change and corruption.

An interesting result is that the Liberals may end up with no seats in Perth or Adelaide (two of the major Australian cities) and only two seats in Melbourne. Delicious.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Yeah totally. It sucks because the Murdoch Media will end up blaming Labour even though they're inheriting it.
