Probably the closest thing to a quality "clone" of StS I've played, it was $30 on XSX and I'm enjoying it a lot. Map experience is different than picking between linear paths but a lot of the rest is very close.

I haven't liked any roguelike deckbuilders nearly as much as spire, but I might pick this one up if it goes on sale on steam. *wishlisted*

Yeah in a couple days I've sank in 10 hours, very addictive, has character progress and card unlocks and all that stuff. I'm finding the challenge to be close also.

It's okay. I preferred Griftlands outside of the art style.

Is that PC or multi plat? I'm on XSX and Switch, definitely open to other games like this, I'd welcome suggestions. I've played Monster Train besides Slay the Spire, that's really it.

This game is an excellent STS clone as well. Has a demo if you want to give it a shot.

I like it better than STS because it has a lot more variety and the map screen makes more sense.

I played it on PC but they have console versions, yeah. Sadly I really only play card games on PC so I can't say that I know console ones at all, so no real suggestions there. At most I could say that if you have a PC at all, no matter how old, it can play Shandalar so if that's the case you might look into it. It's super old but beloved enough that people have hacked it into somewhat working for decades.

Ill give it a look thanks. I prefer Monster Train to Slay the Spire as Spire feels extremely cheap at times with RNG. How does this compare?

It also has a demo on Switch if there is any reason to think you won't be into it but if you're into Slay it's hard to believe that you wouldn't like Griftlands.

It is better, though you have to take that with the grain of salt that I play a lot of card games and am generally fine with/ignore RNG a bit. Slay is a "high varience" style affair in which you have lynchpin cards/relics that make you combo off and if you lack them archetypes tend to feel really weak. By comparison Roguebook (and Griftlands) are "stable" games in which you don't have the zany things from Slay as a potential but instead are more consistently going to have something that doesn't feel bleh to run.

I'm still pretty early but it feels a lot more like Slay the Spire for sure, and I agree with your point on that. It seems to have more depth and stuff to do, including random encounters and whatnot.

Well I bought Griftlands, it's installing now so I may check back in with an opinion on it when I get around to playing it tomorrow.

@ellis123 good call, enjoying this a lot so far, thanks. It's a lot different than I expected with the conversational and dialog battles, but it's a neat twist. I feel like i'm gonna bounce between these two for a while now.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying it. And yeah, it's not the exact same as the others, it's just the same kind of genre of card-battler that StS popularized (if you ignore that the Newgrounds game that it was based on was pretty popular as well). Griftlands has a ton going on and that somewhat makes it more appealing to me, and the whole thing being substantially less RNG (once you know what each event roughly does) means that there is a lot more actual strategy than just hoping for things to go well and living with the consequences.
