A person who is mentally ill can for the most part, depending on how severe it is, live a life. Is it a life where they'll be a CEO of a fortune 100? No probably not. but they can live a 'free' life.

racism was the cause.

Both, quite possibly in a way where the two combined were more severe than the sum of their parts. There are many mentally ill people who are not racist; there are many racists who don't act on it beyond maybe saying shitty things. Ignoring either half simply to downplay one or upplay the other may be convenient for one's ego, but it's irresponsible when it comes to understanding what leads to this kind of crap happening.

I'd argue that the unbridled avarice of most of those CEOs at the cost of society and the planet and the sociopathic traits needed to rise to that position constitute a form of mental illness.

That said, this shooter definitely polluted his mind with the most vile racism and took it to the extreme.

There are millions of mentally ill people in the US. All but one of them didn't murder ten people in Buffalo that day. Fuck anyone who thinks this was caused by anything other right wing radicalization.

What I was getting at was that racism was what the cause was. In somuch that while certain people with extreme mental disabilities like schizophrenia or a significant learning difficulty, they aren't more easily manipulated than the average person.

Yes, you can say having a depressed man who can't get a girlfriend is more likely to listen to a group condemnng women but just as someone who does find social anxiety very difficult can learn to adapt and overcome, so can a person who grew up thinking that people of other races are 'bad'.

Mental illness may very well have made it 'easier' for racists to convince him of it being non-white people but, it was the believe that non-white people are lesser was the primary cause.

I don't disagree with that at all. I'm just trying to subvert your idea that being a CEO is some pinnacle of human achievement when they're indirectly responsible for more death and suffering than any singular violent extremist.

Oh ok. My mistake.
I completely agree.

I was refering to the idea of mental illness being something you can live with. I suppose CEO was a bad example.
A better example might be 'someone with mental illness can live a full life, have a family and be successful in a job' as opposed to 'needs24/7 care'

Out of those two options probably racism. But clearly the man was mentally ill.

What contributed most though was the fact this asshat made threatening comments at his school less than a year ago but somehow didn't get red flagged under NY state law.

If you are going to have red flag laws, which I have my concerns with in general, at least enfore the law to prevent this from occuring.
