I mean I fucking loved 1 and 2 (never played the pre-sequel), so I will probably get it anyway.

The impression I'm getting is visually it looks great, most of the characters are fun, the calypso twins fucking suck, and the balance in the game is iffy.

i enjoyed it a lot. I didn't play it as much as borderlands 2 but thought the balance was better in the very endgame.

BL2 relies too much on certain builds and slag weapons like Grog Nozzle to succeed in the very end-game (OP Levels). BL3 has a lot more freedom in its endgame (Mayhem Mode).

It sucks

Awful. Gameplay is fine but it always takes forever to load from what I played and the areas are big wide nothings. Story is one of the worst I've seen from a company other than square enix and they don't let you skip dialogue or cutscenes.

Its borderline good

I'd recommend TPS just for its Claptastic Voyage DLC. That and Assault on Dragon Keep from BL2 are probably my favorite parts of the series. 3's constant nerfs, shitty split screen performance, and god awful plot(even for Borderlands) pretty much got me to quit the series. The live service bullshit that just deletes content from the game if you're not playing it a certain month in the year sucks, and the game felt unfinished at release when it didn't even ship with a raid boss.

the gameplay is good, but i wish the sidequests and level/world layouts were more like 1 & 2. they phoned it in hard with linear areas that you go through once for the story, then again for some bullshit """funny""" sidequest with fuck all for a reward. it wore out its welcome really aggressively

I found it to be more fun gameplay-wise and far less dependant on certain weapons, builds and game mechanics in lategame. 3 was the first BL game where I actually enjoyed playing as each character even in the endgame.

I also found it less grindy and tiresome to obtain a given weapon if I really wanted it. There were some items I was after in BL2 and never got to see, despite hours and hours of the same fights over and over.

The story, well... The Calypsos were always going to be a letdown compared to Jack, but I was hoping they'd be a lot more sinister and ominous than they were. Instead, the writers seemed to go for more annoying. And they weren't the worst characters for that, either.

Some aspects of the story I did like, but they were often tainted by something later on. At least I could switch off and wait to get back into the pewpew.

Gameplay is good but the story and characters suffered from several massive rewrites and it's generally all over the place.

I loved it... Enjoyed playing as every character and had some fun endgame builds...

Story wasn't as good as 2 but I knew they weren't going to top Handsome Jack... Even then, I still enjoyed it...

Also loved all the DLC too...

I'm a little biased because it's the only one in the series I paid no money to play lol, but I liked it. 2 might edge it out when playing as the short dude (because he turns it into a boomer shooter essentially) but it's better than 1 at least. Gunplay and weapon variety seem significantly better than the other games.

I played before the supposed nerfs though so I can't attest to how it is currently.

Quality gunplay. Downgrade story-wise but come on, how can you top Handsome Jack?

Well BL2 had a DLC sidequest where Jack was attempted to be cloned in a bullymongs body iirc

Are these games decent in singleplayer or is it more of a coop thing?

They are basically an MMO in every respect. You can do them solo but loot farming only works if it's with people as a way to hide the fact that it's just a Skinner box.

Its fun but the console port UI drags it down

Gameplay is good, everything else is peak cringe.
